So my horse is off on loan. I am quite a demanding owner welfare wise and like my horse to have yearly injections, insurance, saddle fitting, dentist, shoes every 6 weeks with named farrier, etc, etc.

Who pays for what in your agreements? And what agreement do you have with regards to tack.

Thanks!

I'm quite chilled with mine tbh, they're a knowledgeable family and keep in contact regularly, see them out competing etc. All responsability is down to them, which includes vets, farrier, injections, etc. I've never insured so it's up to them whether they want insurance to take out it or not, but again, all repsonsability is with them. Plus on facebook, etc, and I know the mare inside out so any help they need or advice on what to do if they need it, I'll get a phone call or text etc. All wardrobe went with her and expect that back should she come home...but is their choice to buy any extra stuff they want for her too of their own :)

I don't pay for anything, namely as I put her out on loan originally because I'd outgrown her, didn't want to lose ownership of her but is too good of a pony to be sat there doing sod all, hence the reason for her being out on loan :) I don't really expect to be paying anything for a horse not in my care when I have my own at home with me.

If you have a horse on loan expect to pay for everything just as you would if you owned it, unless you have agreed otherwise with the owner.

My brother has a lovely gigantacob on permanent loan from the RDA and he pays for everything, we actually bought all her tack and everything as we felt they were a charity so we didn't want to take anything from them! Good luck hope it goes well!

I've always said that the loaner should pay for everything except the insurance. I think recent posts on here have shown why that is so important!

List every single item that goes with the horse. Stating that it must all be returned/replaced with item of similar value/quality. Normal wear and tear is acceptable.

I always pay the insurance for the horse, unless they want to upgrade, then they pay the difference. Other than that, they pay for everything. If, however, I decide to have the horse back and they have paid for jabs, etc, I will make a contribution back to them.

the pony that im taking on loan for my wee sister in september we pay for everything except for insurance, but everything else is my responsibility

I have a loan horse and pay everything including insurance, I also provided all her tack and rugs. I agreed to this because having her is a fantastic opportunity to have an exceptionally well bred & talented mare that I could never afford to buy, but I can have a few years of good competitive success on.
On the other hand I also loaned out one of my ponies who went to the loaner with a full wardrobe and tack. They pay all costs except insurance and I cover any vets bills for an excluded and pre-existing condition but nothing else.

swings and roundabouts

When my horse was out on loan, I paid for insurance and vets bills - I know the vets fees is unusual, but I wanted 100% piece of mind that finances would never influence a decision re:medical care. I agreed to go 50/50 on saddler (annual) Chiro and massages (bi-annual). Loaner was provided with full wardrobe, but replaced things as required, which were given to me when horse returned - we now share him 50/50 and so far so good!

hi, i pay £25 a week and the owner pays for everything, vets, farrier, dentist, feed rugs the lot... the only thing i pay for is a sack of apples as a treat which costs me the grand total of £2 a fortnight!

I'm loaning, and I pay for everything. The owner has kept the insurance in her name, but I have a copy of the policy, and pay her monthly for it.

It's up to me to arrange the farrier, dentist etc. Owner paid for her vaccs, but that's only because they were due in the first week I had her.

She came with her tack and rugs, and I replace or repair anything that needs it (so far only some new reins, and I've changed her bit).

If any of ours are out on loan, the loaner pays for including insurance. As ours all seem to be fogeys, they all come back here to live out their days. :)
