My darling happy hacker mare has always had a large belly and larger when the spring grass is out. I dont know her history, I have owned her 5yrs and she was 10 when i bought her, came from poland, I have checked her teats and private parts and she looks like she has had a few foals in her time. Does the mummy tummy always hang so as if full or with enough work can they tighten up. I dont mind her tummy but just wondered if brood mares ever lose that brood outline. Thx

Can't help you sorry - but would be interested to hear answers from those that can. Our welsh mare had a couple of foals when she was younger and has always had a 'baby belly'. She's only hacked the last couple of years but will be doing more this summer - would be nice to know if we can expect the belly to disappear! :)

None of my mares have baby bellies and they have all had a number of foals. My mares live outside in large fields on hilly ground so have plenty of exercise which keeps them all in good shape. If you mare still has a baby belly after all this time then I think you will struggle to get rid of it now.
