CAVEAT EMPTOR

Young man if perforce, you must purchase a horse,
Then of dealers like paddy beware
Of people whose words, from the trees can charm birds,
Or the cash from you wallet take care!

I went to his farm and fell for his charm,
when he showed me his "Wonderful Horse".
With his rich Irish brogue, this most plausible rogue
took me in and I bought it of course.

"I don't like to brag, but he jumps like a stag
over timber and hedges and water,
I'm sure he will do as a hunter for you,
and be gentle enough for your daughter.

D'ye want him for racing? He's bred right for chasing,
both his dam and his sire won a lot.
He has a full brother-belongs to me mother
who won 10 point-to-points on the trot.

He's as safe in a box as the gold in Fort Knox,
And he goes like a bomb with the hounds.
He's easy to clip. He's and absolute snip
at 10 thousand, thats guineas not pounds.

A child could be doing his grooming and shoeing,
In the ring you should see his clear rounds.
He's a horse you will bless, so I couldn't take less
than Nine thousand, come now I'll take pounds!

He's only 8 and well up to weight
and at Dressage he really astounds
He's a real good goer, I couldn't take lower
than 8 thousand, and for cash I'll take pounds'

He always goes well and is as sound as a bell
What? you think that this looks like a spavin,
Ah no not at all -just a little wind gall.
Tis a wonderful horse you'll be havin.

Alright I'll say seven as Goads in his heaven.
You can have him at that price because,
you're the man for the horse, Sir your gain is my loss.
So at last I said 'Done!' and I was

And that is the reason, I lost a whole season,
as well as 5 thousand smackers,
I'm filled with remorse that the worth of that horse
was Eighteen pounds fifty at the knackers.

Take warning my son, or you too will be done
If you don't see the point of this tale
Beware of the Blarney of Paddy O'Mahoney,
and of others with horses for sale
