I just wanted to say i HATE you all.:mad::mad::p:p:p:p

I'm sooooooo fed up i've not ridden the horrid one for over 2 weeks now :(:( We're both so bored. He's getting very grumpy and so am I. We havn't had any snow for ages but our school is frozen solid and I need to lunge him before i even attempt to get on. :( To make matters even worse my OH just phoned to say by Fri we will be under 6 inches of snow. :(:(:( and this horrid weather is going to last till 9th Jan. :(:( They say we're in for the worst winter since 1960 something. :(

I had planed to take Herbs to some walk, trot stressage after xmas but that plans gone out the window. I normaly love winter because of hunting but I havn't even done that this season. :(:(:(

Sorry for the winge but i'm just getting so fed up of not being able to ride. I realy realy need a good ride on my boy just to get away from it all right now.
Please feel free to join in with my moan (and hating of people with indoor schools :p ;) :D ) So I don't feel like a moaning minnie.

People with indoor and even outdoor schools are lucky in my book! I've got an outdoor paddock which is abit boggy right now. Our hacking is still iced over :(

**Whinge** My arena is now ok to lunge/ride on but my divvy ginger beast decided to slip in the field whilst messing about on Friday (was turned out as normal through all the horrid weather) and now has a warm fat leg  And he is not appreciating the cold hose morning and night. He hasn't been ridden properly for 3 weeks, we've managed one short schooling sesh and two very short lungeing sessions during this rubbish weather :(

indoor school at my old riding schools roof collapsed with horses inside ....maybe your safe int he great outdoors!

 OMG I hope they where all ok. Maybe I'm not so jelous after all.

LaurenM Even our fields are still solid to. Our hacking would prob be ok on a sane horse at a walk. But not on the horrid one after over 2 weeks off. :(

barbaraNcolin (((((((((hugs))))))))) I hope your boys better soon. I don't think i'd like cold hosing much either at the mo.

elsiex No transport :( and he'll need lunging for a good few days before I get back on so could get expencive.

I will join the hate club, so fed up with it now, lovely sunny day and really want to get on and ride but the drives are like skating rinks as are the tracks and i am bored

LauraW - what's a 'sane' horse? I thought tanking off with you was normal..or at least thats what my horse thinks! ;)

I would love to box to an indoor but said horse doesn't feel inclined to get on the box without having a strop. We have snow here Friday too which means more ice :(

If the hacking is OK, could you try taking him out in hand for a wander? Or is that not his cup of tea?

I hate all of you who have horses full stop! :p:p:p:p

We have an indoor and tbh my horse is sick fed up of the sight of it. Even jumping, he just goes in, goes through the motions and goes back in his stable.
It is costing me a bomb to book it and put the lights on every morning / night.

Those of you with no facilities: can you not think of this period as an 'enforced holiday', get to grips with all the jobs you mean to do during the year (mending / sorting rugs, tidying your tack locker, cleaning tack etc) and be all shiny and new in 2011? Sorry, just trying to see if I could put a positive spin on this weather at all...

Totally with on this one.

Same here, not ridden now for over 3 weeks due to firstly a frosted school, then a frozen school for a week (so come late evenings it was hard again) then obviously all the snow, finally managed to get in the school this weekend come Saturday afternoon half of the school was clear but by Sunday it had all melted and just to top if all off, yep we in for more snow end of this week.

Not a happy bunny.:(

LOL LaurenM I have forgotten what a sane horse is to. I think they are stuff of fairy tails to be honest :p :D :D

NicoleS_007 do you want Herbie? He's lovely, honest ;) :p :D :D

dibbin in a pear tree I hope you have a sound horse soon.

Queenbee87 Hacking isn't great. Last time I lead him up the track he flatterned me. (knocked me over and ran over the top of me for no apparent reason  :( ) I would be worried the whole time incase he did something stupid.

Flicker and RudolphsRider your probably right Horrid would get bored going in the school everyday. A bored Herbie is not a fun Herbie.

RunToEarth ours was like that last week but now it's just so hard I stubbed my toe on one of the divets the otherday

Kenzo ((((((((hugs)))))))).

I'll join the club - horsey getting very grumpy not being ridden, becomes a bit of pig to handle :(

He is getting turned out which is good!

Although I know people who have an indoor but cant get to the yard cause the roads are so bad, at least I can get to my yard to see my horse, roads are too bad to take the horsebox out to travel somewhere that has an indoor!

Want it to end - now please!!

Keep an eye on the ground conditions - you may be able to exercise your horse even without an indoor school, or any school.

In other countries with constant snow each winter, horses are still being worked... :-)
Shod horses get studs.
Barefoot horses may have quite a good grip on snow (avoid ice though) - and sometimes wear boots with studs if it is icy

So... if you really really want to work your horse, you may be able to, as long as you take some steps to adapt to the ground conditions.

On a side note, I would avoid hosing the horse in the cold - they can get frost damage to the legs.

we have atiny indoor but im grafetul for it - especially with a 4 year old who looks at everything to get out of work and anoy me!....

were renting an indoor next week as we need to ride properly as i have a comp on the 27th :/

it will get better - hang in there!

Oh no, how terrible, just read your reply.

My dad's barn roof has done exactly the same thing due to the weight of the snow, it's hanging by a thread on one of the last beams others have smashed, had builders round and they have quoted 12k for it all to be demolised as it's deemed unsafe both structual and due to the asbestos roof.

It's joint to the old mill buildings where the kennels and a couple of my stables are (which were in use many years ago til I went onto a livery) to think it's all going to have to be taken down is quite sad, many memories etc.

I am in one of those countries and have managed to ride once in 3 weeks (my girlie put on quite a display for it!!!) snow is no problem, ice is, even with studs in the ground its bad. They go in the field everyday as they have snow grips in their shoes but hacking out is a no no. I think a big difference here is that there are far fewer privately owned yards and more "big" livery yards with covered walkers and indoor schools. I work on a private yard with crap facilities, promises promises promises.................

We have an indoor school but I still can't ride, so I hate all of you who have sound horses at the moment :p:p:p

Well I would say, feeling smug at the mo, sound horse and indoor school, but am so bored with said indoor school now, want to go out to play!! so I'll join you all in the feeling sorrry for myself with all this crap weather!!

well would love one too but it aint going to happen so i have learnt to get on with what i can when I can. OK so we havent really had any snow yet but we have had ice! I have just been keeping my horse ticking over, somedays you can hack out, some days you cant, some days you can walk/trot in the school, some days you cant, some days i can get to a field to ride, somedays I cant but so far I have managed to keep riding. I think even if the school is absolutely frozen solid I will still walk round it provided shes not slipping all over the place - stops me and my horse going mental! The best thing is - they have managed to be turned out each day so thats a good thing!

Roll on spring!
