Right this weeks drama!
Moved the 'oss to a new yard about 9 days ago, she's settled really well is happy with her new field buddy! The pony from the next field has managed to get in to my field He's gone hurtling down the field to my horse she's given him 'the look' so he kicked her 3 times in the back leg. she them retaliated and eventually someone at the yard managed to seperate them. (I was at work while all this happened). The pony escaping is being resolved with electric fencing. My dilema is my girls 'war wounds'.
She has would looks like a carpet burn under her tail on her bum cheek (technical term) furs been scuffed off and its a bit red and sore but no blood or weeping.
Further down on the out side smack bang in the middle of her lower leg she has a cut. About an inch and a half or so long and about half an inch wide its down to the pink flesh and was bleeding moderately. I bathed it with some suricgal wound cleaner that I'd been advised to use on a previous cut occasion by the vet, and sprayed it with this anti bacterial stuff thats meant to create a film over the cut. (I'm not confident about it)
This was all last night. This morning the carpet burn is looking fine the pinky redness has gone down. But the deeper cut is still weeping and the fur around it its crusty with blood so its obviously been bleeding again in the night. My dilema is she's still turned out and obvioulsy the fields aren't a very clean place bringing her in isn't really an option as it will be far to stressful for her. I'm abit worried that because its on her leg and she's out it the mud and wet it'll get infected. my options are :
A) Clean it everyday and apply lotions and potions hoping nothing nasty gets in it.
B) Apply a small bandage just to keep the mud and germs out and give it an airing everyday when I can monitor where she's going.
C) Clean it and leave it.
Advice?
