I need help! I went with a friend the other day to view some ponies from the New Forest. The viewing was for my friend. The man didn't know we were coming so none of the ponies were 'prepped'. He seems genuine and has got a good reputation in our area.

To cut a long story short we went into a field of filly's and one did the worst thing in the world - she cut loose from her herd - walked up to me and put her head over my shoulder. :D She had only ever been touched 5x in her life. She's obviously not full New Forest (see pic), she's a 'she', she's 2 in June and she's coloured (more white than not) EVERYTHING on paper that I don't want. But I've fallen in love. I could touch her all over. Her ears, back, legs, girth area. And she hasn't been blessed in the looks department. But I really like her. Farmer is asking £350 which includes delivery. My YO has said £5 a week for 1.5 acres of grazing on top of my existing field. What would you do?

She's a swan that will be stunning when She grows into herself...she's a bargin and not going break the bank to keep.
Worst omes to the worst you keep her, break her in when old enough and sell on.
Sometimes no matter what your wish list includes, when your heart falls for something else you have to go with it.

She looks very sweet, I would go for it. Its funny how they choose you. Nell did pretty much the same, she was the first up to the gate and although obviously nervous she was so intrigued by me and just wanted to keep touching and sniffing me.
Sounds like a decent price including delivery and cheap field rent too. And spring is on its way so you could take her out for some nice in hand walks over the summer :)

Thats all my friends have been saying!!! buy her!

Conformation wise - how do you think she looks? Her feet are covered in mud so look a bit boxy - but I think thats the mud. She appears to have a good shoulder. What do you think she is? I'm assuming she's half NF, she's not as cobby as some of the other ponies he had and doesn't appear to have too much feather. Apparently on her passport she's called Longslade Elfin.

Forgot to mention my good friend and RI would do any breaking. I've had a bit of experience with babies, Shire colt and Welsh D 3yo colt. Not had the pleasure of fillies though.

She is long on the back, short in the neck and thick through the jowl. The thing that would concern me most is that she looks very back at the knee - not a good fault as this can put a lot of strain on them.

The field might not cost a lot to keep her but, there are a lot of other costs ahead, including paying someone to break her when she is old enough.

How could you not buy her?!

No good with confo, but looks OK to me.

Apparently I'm a cold b***h with a heart of stone! :D
I am very good at switching off and saying no. I'm not impulsive in the slightest which sometimes makes me miss out on opportunities. However my daughter is smitten (as you can see in the pictures) and I think she should make a nice size. I would say she's about 13hh now. I would hope she makes 15hh which would be ideal.

This is what I need - thank you! the pictures are taken on a hill and I did think that the pictures look odd. Will try and see her tomorrow to look at theses points when shes on a level bit.

Tbh for £350 I wouldn't be too worried about the confo, they all go through an ugly duckling stage at that age anyway. It looks like she has chosen you for herself actually. I'm sure she won't let you down :).

She is very lovely, like her lots.

Do double check they haven't been running with a colt or stallion, always a risk with a filly from this situation 2 for 1 ;)

She looks sweet. I brought a 5yr old from the forest that had never been touched. She was Arab x and she walked up to me from the herd and let me touch her all over. She was the easiest horse to break in and loved the attention.

I don't think she looks long in the back or thick in the jowl particularly.

I agree that she looks a bit back at the knee and her feet look a little boxy. Non of the pics show her stood straight on flat ground though, so not easy to say how big the issues are anyway.

For £350 I wouldn't worry, you're hardly going to lose money. She looks a nice honest type that will fill into something useful.

I think I would be severely tempted if I were you.

Oooh don't tell me that! The farmer had a look at her passport that he brought her with and he said it says she's 'unknown' as to breed although she has a NF passport. He also said that he vaguely knows the man who put her through the sales and would possibly be able to tell me more about her. But this would all be AFTER I brought her.

I think I would rather a few issues that I am aware of than a picture perfect horse with a bad attitude....I might be cheeky and see if he'll take £300! Delivery is only about 8 miles away so I don't think I'll be taking the pee too much.

Shy had huge splints when i first saw him, but they have resolved and gone - and he's turned into a stunner. Your lass needs worming, love and a great fun life :) Get her on a good baby balancer, and see how much she changes.

I think she looks an absolute sweetheart :). I bought my mare as an un-handled 2yo and chose her in the field similarly to you; when she came up to me asking for fuss and was so chilled whilst the others jumped when you lifted your hand towards them slowly (understandably as none of them were handled). She's been an absolute delight and the personality I fell in love with has shone through whilst showing her everything new she's been so accepting and trusting. However despite having 'the glowing feeling' after first viewing, I arranged second to have a look at her on the flat, and then also rang the chap back up and asked him to bring any others in that met my requirements to watch free school at second viewing, I still chose her but felt more certain in myself that I had chosen right :). I would personally at least bring her in and have a good practical look at her on the flat before handing over the cash, but I reckon she will be going home with you ;).

Go for it.........she has such a kind eye on her! Definately fate......she has chosen you. I would probably offer £50 less just for the hell of it tho'!.Keep us updated.xxx
