Basically, a friend of mine has offered to "do a deal" with me on two ex-racers that are coming over from Ireland this friday. They're family owned and the idea would be to sell them on (re-schooling has already been started), but depending on the horse I might be tempted to have a bit of fun doing ROR classes, etc! They would probably be kept at his house and so the only costs involved would be feeding, rugging etc (could poss spare some rugs, 22 for one horse is a bit enthusiastic!) and then try and sell on poss before the winter, poss after. But the question being is anything (esp this type!) selling at the moment? Don't want to jump into it, onyl to find out we have to hold onto them for months on end? Any tips?

Thanks

I think there are so many TB's on the market at the moment so you would have to hang onto them and give them as much experience as possible to increase the chances of a good sale. Perhaps hunting them for a bit as well as taking them to HT's, dressage, indoor SJ etc.

If you think you have the time to do these things as well as hanging onto them for a bit longer then it could be worth it if you aim them at the right market.

TBs are selling but at very low prices. There probably would be no profit margin. However if you see it as a fun thing to do and are not concerned about making a lot of money it could be a worthwhile venture.

sounds good but tbs theres a lot on the market n some people are put off if theyv been raced dont know why but a friend of myn looked at 1 n 1ns she knew it had raced didnt want it ?????

As everyone says, there are alot on the market AND the market is flat! if you could put the work in and compete it in a discipline then a proven competition horse will sell better/easier, it may be more prudent to put the work in over the winter get it shown/competing sj/dressage etc and hope that the market has improved enough come next spring...
