I went to see a horse yesterday, just musing as to whether or not to buy him and would appreciate some opinions!

Rising 8, broken at 4 by a well respected person, been only hacked since plus been to a show or two, not ridden since the summer due to owners lack of time. Well put together and nice paces but basically unable to try properly although did get on and walk around the yard which he was a bit on his toes about!

With work he could be very nice but at 8 would need to be restarted I feel. Would you do it?

I would not pay anywhere near that price. For £400 I might take a chance, if ai believed the story and really liked the horse

Difficult, and slightly depends on your ability and what you want to do. Do you have a good feel that he will come good in time and the work he needs is stratighfroward enough? I'd want to know they are ready to do the job I want, or v nearly ready, otherwise there is a bit of guess work and some unknowns in there. Horses can change a lot if they are poor. Bf if you're after a project then maybe.

Price is also tricky, such a range at the moment! It's what you're happy to pay really. But agree, there are some pretty cheap tb out there in better shape for about the same money.

Visit a second time and get a second opinion if you haven't already. And get it vetted!

Yes I thought overpriced for basically bought from field but don't think seller will negotiate much on price, think they have their rose tinted specs on- maybe if he was able to be tried properly it would be a different matter!

I can see that he would be nice, and do the job I want, but obviously no telling if he is actually bonkers to ride and it is a big gamble- the seller did seem genuine though although they think the breeding counts a lot

Where are you op? I spoke to someone yesterday with some nice sounding nh tb horses at that price or slightly higher. Ready to go or v close to it. I'm not sure I want a full tb, after something chunkier, but waiting for pics.

I'm in the south west. At 15 3 this horse is at the top of my height range, wanted more 15.1 to 2 for a sporty small allrounder so imagine the nh tb's may be a bit big?

Yes, and in the South East so too far for you. Like others on here have said to me, you'll know when you know. Good luck!
