Quick bit of back ground: Horse slighty stiff in back fetlock once or twice over last few weeks, not lame. Decided to get vet as he is 14 and wanted to make sure there was no underlying reason.

Last Friday vet came out, trotted up sound, flexion test sound.
Came back today to scan. Found nothing horrible so very hopefull. Today he examined him, scanned him, dope injection. Said give him bute for a period of time, bring back into light work, keep eye on it etc. He has also advised having bar shoes on the back, which farrier has kindly said he will write the invoice stating on vet advice so that I could claim that amount back if I wanted.

So so far
Call out x 2
examine x 2
dope inj
scan
bute
bar shoes

Any idea how much this will be? Will ring vet in the morning to check anyway. If I don't claim now I am worried that if he needs more treatment then I will be too late to claim, and If I do claim E and L will probably tell me that after this treatment his leg will not be covered anymore? Advice please!!

It's now on your vet record so if you had cause to claim in the distant future the chances are they wouldn't pay out as the leg had been investigated previously. Generally insurance pays out for a year afer first investigation.

read your t&c's carefully, i changed from E&L last year but if i remember correctly you have 90 days from when the injury/condition was noted to notify them - after this they will not pay out on anything related to this.

fell foul of this with mine - rear hind lameness intially thought to be related to a previous condition which now falls under an exculsion so didn't notify (tendon issues)

had a vet work up intially and not thought to be too bad, physio rest etc then went for a 2nd opinion turned out to be SI injury - refused payout as i hadn't notified them within 90 days of the condition sufacing (but to be fair following huge hissy fit they agreed a partical payout with no liability as i was a long term 'valued customer')

IMO/experiance notify as if/when you need to claim on this now or in the future the date of vet attendance will be on the medical history and then if outside the 90days they will not pay out.

again from memory E&L cover a conditon from date it was first noticed for 365 days

I have made 3 claims this year on my insurance and each time they have asked for my horses history. NFU have changed theirs recently they don't put exclusions on the policy's anymore they just exclude any illness suffered, before your next renewal. If you have claimed or not. It is suppose to be better for us as they don't exclude the whole leg if the problem is only in the fetlock for example.
