Whilst pottering about down the yard tonight I heard a huge cracking noise, looked over to see the mad mare with the (turned on) electric fence connector between her teeth, I shot over but she spat it out and took the temp fence for a run round the field. Seriously where does she learn this stuff? Evening classes for delinquent draft horse one presumes!

I can't be alone in having a rather oddly clever/oddball beastical can I? . . .

I have on several occasions watched my big un pull multiple electric fencing stakes out with his teeth and then jump over the tape. I now have to use wooden stakes! This is the same horse that unlatches the field gate and brings himself in for dinner. Have had to tie a lead rope around the gate post to keep him in the field.

I've also watched as my shetland climbed over high tensile stock mesh and she also has a habit of cammo crawling under the hedges. We have had to lay several of our hedges because she rolls under the gaps regardless of how small. Another time she ploughed her way through a solid blackthorn hedge and the only way we knew she'd got through was the fact she left half her rug in there.

My old boy Oliver was leader of the herd. He used to persuade his second in command to break the top rail of the fence and then made him jump over first into the footpath that ran down the side of the field, into the pub garden at the bottom. The second in command horse would literally be happy grazing and Oli would go over and pester him and bully him towards the fence until he gave in and broke it down (we hid out one time and watched this scenario unfold). They would all then follow over (except the Minature Shetland, who was very put out to be left behind). Needless to say, electric fencing was our best friend!

both of mine can undo their lead ropes, mare can undo her haynet from string.. and they both stand on fencing with electric even tho both are shod on all 4.

My big lad puts his head between the electric tape, wobbles his head up and down till the plastic stakes come out then walks over it! If i hadn't seen it with my own eyes i wouldnt believe it. He's always untying lead ropes, haynets, the dog lead if the dogs tied up. If you hang your coat up and theres any whiff of a mint he'll chew through your pocket to get them.

Our two year old cob filly has already learnt that if she puts her neck under the fence, with her head slightly on one side, her mane stops the shock! She can also undo bolts, hence we found her and the three year old in the same box  What bothers me is that if she is doing this now what will she be like as she grows up? :D

My Shetland pony gelding is full of mischief. When we have them on the lawn grazing he thinks he should come in with us. He has now learnt how to open the back door by wobbling the handle with his lips. He also unzips coat pockets to look for polos. :)

I was once told the story of a horse that would get bored in the field, so he'd pull all the fence posts up and let him self back into his stable!

my dozey cob can undo gates , bolts, knots pretty much anything! its so annoying lol! he also figured out that if he knocks the box with the fence unit in onto the floor it comes unclipped off the fence and he can undo it and get out, have started tying extra electric fence across instead of a clip!! Have had to put padlocks on everything seems this is all that defeats him!
