At new yard I will be able to turn my Welsh D out every day through the winter hopefully. Cant make up my mind whether to let him get hairy or not. Last year he had a neck, chest and belly clip. I only have two turnout rugs - a rainsheet and a 200g with neck and can't really afford anymore at present. If I don't clip will he be OK without a rug?

You should be able to get away with taking off a little bit of hair with the rugs you already have unless you D is a wet drip! They are hardy beasties so if you're just giving him/her a bib clip or similar should be fine with rug

Ellie is a Section Dand was clipped the other week in the same way. She has a lightweight rug overnight but thats cuz she's old (29)

do you want him clipped for a reason or just looks? if you ride lightly and just lunge just get his belly neck and chest clipped and put a light weight on for now then when it starts getting colder move up to your middle weight one. if he dont sweat dont bother getting him clipped at all!
