My pony is 14.1hh. 7 years old approx and New Forrest X Welsh gelding. He grows a very thick winter coat but this will be his first winter in work and I don’t want him getting sweaty/ uncomfortable every time I’ve worked him. I was thinking of a trace clip? Should I?

He's really lovely, but carrying a bit of weight. If he's unfit, he'll also be more hot and sweaty after exercise, so for those reasons, I'd clip him. For a horse that is only going to do short walking hacks or 20 minutes lightly working in the school a couple of times a week, he'd be fine with a trace clip.

I've already clipped my cob. I just did an Irish clip, plus running the clippers upside down along the back of his legs/chin to take away the long cat hairs, feathers and beard. This way I can leave him unrugged as much as possible, as he does have shelter.

Clipping doesn't harm horses if they are cared for as per their clip/body condition. a trace on him would not effect him in any way but make him more comfy when in work...so yeah go for it.
