well im hopefully off to moreton morrell pn, but the other weekend we had an accident involving a jump in water and cut knees afterwards
do you think i should grease or not?
how many people grease for pn?

My opinion is if you have to grease for PN you shouldn't be doing it! If you hit a fence hard enough grease isn't going to save you anyway.

Sure you'll be fine without it. I wouldn't grease until intermediate when sometimes it does help to slither over when it doesn't go quite to plan!

i agree!! only greased twice - aldon 2day - thought hw may be a little tired after roads and tracks and steple chase and at Chepstow int this year as it was a hilly course and wanted to help him out a bit if we did get in to a bit fo trouble - there was also a bounce to a one stride triple and thought if i got it a bit wrong it would slide us over!

I always use grease just in case

is that wrong?!

He's only small, and i don't like risking it - I always think that the one time I decide not to grease, he'll hit a fence

I suppose it's just mentally reassuring - although one of my friends said it's bad for them because it stops them sweating?
Not sure...

Absolutely agree!
A PN horse needs to learn how to sharpen up in front if it's hitting jumps that height and grease wont help it learn.
No need until intermediate/3 days

Totally agree with Boss and Mel.. i'd be sh!t scared to ride a horse that needed grease at intro/PN/novice level!!!

I once agreed to ride a horse for someone else at a PN event, i'd never seen it or sat on it before, but turned up at the event to sit on it for the first time (the owner took it there, i met them there).. well dressage and SJing went fine.. we got it ready for the XC and i went to my car to get myself ready, when i came back she had plastered its legs with grease.. to say i was embbarased (sp?) walking to the start was an understatement!!!

NO to grease at PN level!!
unless of course you want to put one of those nose strips on too

thanks
i wont bother now
he has done novice be with his old rider and has potential for intermediates, he fell over in the water onto his knees then tried to jump the jump
nothing scope related

yay!!!!!!!
brilliant!
well its up to you, mabye 2'9'' is a good idea because of your collar bone!!
you can just enter on the day so there is no rush!
the open isnt big at all really

I only began greasing the hind legs (at novice BE level) when my horse jumped awkwardly and scraped the skin off his stifles. I would think grease would have helped stop that happening, hence why I use it now! I dont personally use it it order to slide over anything (my horse is normally very careful) but it might help avoid the odd scrape.

I dont use it on my other horse who does intro's though.
