To Hack Or not to Hack???

Basically pickle has had 5 weeks off work, now vets have said he needs 2 weeks of just walk, now I will obviously start off in the school but will have to ride straight away (as he is very speedy on the lunge) now vet says I can hack him him in walk.

Now pickle has always been speedy on hacks, allthough without any hacking he kind of looses concentration and gets very bored with schooling, was considering trying to do a week of walking in the school then start a bit of hacking, do you think this is wise, or that I should stick to the school for the 2 weeks?

As he been turned out in his 5 weeks off? If so hacking out could be a suicide mission! If he's had turnout, I'd hack, just stick a strong bit in & take a sensible companion, it wont kill him if he gets a bit wound up!

yep turned out the first 2 weeks in at night, then the last 3 weeks the 24/7 summer turnout. Think I'll go for it then bring out the gag, sticky jodphurs and Miffy (incredibly chilled out highland owned by lydia on here)

Just walk him out at the pace he is happy with.

Thats kind of impossible where I ride! you walk 5 mins up the path, then open field,then more open fields! All our hacking is almost all open fields

Even so Jess, there's no reason why he shouldn't still walk quietly for you. Just don't ask for trouble by going out with a group of other people who will not want to walk.

nope wouldnt do that, dont tend to hack with those sorts anyway so I can always have the option of walking, shall go out on a hack with lydia and miffy (who is the most chilled out horse you could ever ever meet!)

and the only lane you can get to, you guessed it you have to go through open fields! I am going to go for a nice CALM hack
 
The owner of the place where i keep my horse is 69 and still trains his own point 2 pointers. One had a year off after an injury and hes just started to hack him out in a snaffle so it also depends on the rider, he says if you expect trouble you will get it. Fair play to him i say. Oh and he never gets trouble.
