So I am thinking of hogging my cob type thing  what do you guys think? Or should I just tidy him up? Also need to clip at some point as want to do some hunting once he's fitter and alot thinner

Not being rude but he's got quiet a slight neck so I'd definately not hog him. In my view hogged horses should have good strong powerful necks in order to be able to hold a hog, I tend to only like very heavy weights hogged. I would definately get him tidied up, his mane isn't good enough to leave natural and he's not got alot of feathers to be able to have him traditional. Sorry not being horrible or personal about him because he's lovely, but as a hairy horse owner I know what suits my boy best and because he's heavily feathered I have him fully maned, tailed and legs. My last horse was a strong powerful heavy 16.2hh cob but had weedy feathers so he looked stunning hogged, this one I have now would look terrible hogged! It's all up to personal taste, but I think your boy would look lovely with a neat, longish but tidy mane and clipped out legs.

Before I saw the pics I was going to say hog, as I do like a nice smart, hogged cob! But after looking at the pics I don't know now, and tend to agree with jsr. I think a nice pulled mane would suit him better, but then hogging is easier!

As the owner of a l/w coloured cob that I would dearly love to hog to make my life easier but friends tell me he hasn't got the neck for (had a different response on here, must have been deceptive photos..), I can fully understand you wanting to hog, especially if wanting to hunt, it will be quicker than plaiting.

However, I think he would look lovely with a nice short pulled mane - it doesn't look too thick, does he mind you pulling it?

Lovely horse btw :)

It's actually really thick, probably doesn't look it as most likely half on other side of neck:eek::) but I do see what you mean abit his neck is quite narrow looking :)

When I say trim and tidy it would be using a solo comb type thing, don't have the patience to pull it:) I've never actually plaited him to hunt as they end up like golf balls :rolleyes:

I go through this dilemma everytime I think about taking him somewhere. I can't plait and I've butchered his mane with the solo comb..

I want someone to sneak in my yard and just hog mine then can't blame myself if he looks bad - shall I do the same for you? :D

He has a pretty Welsh type 'dished' face and I personally think hogging looks better on a more roman type nose. I saw a welsh D at a show recently who was hogged and it didn't suit him at all. It takes an awful long time to grow back if you don't like!

Still can't decide - his neck does look more muscled the other side but yes he does have a pretty face and most hogged cobs I know have more of a roman nose.

I do think a shortened mane would really suit him..

But hogging would be so much easier..

Sorry, I'm not much help...
