Cob has extremely thick heavy mane which I usually cut then thin with solo comb as would take forever to pull and horse would object.
I am wondering whether to hog for the summer as , a) would he be cooler or b) or does mane help with flies and keeping sun off neck.
Also will it grow back like a bog brush .Never hogged a nag before.

Never hogged myself but couple months ago bought a hogged horse, very smart, no upkeep but they do need to be able to carry it off (which he could luckily) . I am growing it out for the summer and at the moment he looks like he has a mohican ! Will probably hog again for winter hunting though. Benefit of mane is that it helps getting on.

I hogged my boy after he got an infection under the mane and it was falling out as a result, was hogged In the new year and at the moment he has a Mohawk about 3 inches long and it's grown in thinner on the bottom as well but at least it will all be the same length and I won't have to cut the top bit to match the bottom.

I like hogged cobs although for me if the mane comes off the feathers have to come off to but that's my personal preference. Unfortunately yes if u leave to grow back it will be abit bog brushy for a while

Cant do legs. Have taken his legs off. He looked awful, all knees and feet. Never again! Although you are right. Thanks for confirming me me that I will NOT be hogging. !!!!!
