As the title says, whether I should hog him or not. He gets very hot under his mane in the summer, and he literally shakes when I try and wash it, so won't be doing that this summer anyway unless I have too. But just not quite sure If it would suit him?!?!20220226_073031.jpg

I'm a polo person so I would hog! I think most horses look lovely with a good hog, but just make sure you stay on top of it and re hog once a week. Nothing worse than a half grown out hog!

Couldn't agree more - current loan horse has a nearly grown-out hog and she looks ridiculous! However, she loves to grind her neck into the mud so until it is warm enough to give it a wash and reclip, I'll have to put up with it. :) She's a very hot horse so I will probably keep her clipped out all year round but I think that is going to mean lots of blade sharpening as her hair is coarse. So personally, I'd rather have a short mane but don't think it would work on her.

I’d hog just because mine are expert dreadlock makers! BUT i prefer a mane and keep a good length to their manes especially in summer due to biting insects, which they shake and disturb with their manes and tails. Im very rural near forestry so midges and horseflies are stern culprits for me keeping manes offering a bit of protection from bites.

Hard to tell from those photos but I'm not sure he's cobby enough to hog - I'm another vote for a 4/5" neat mane. You don't have to pull, it's possible to get a pretty good finish with a comb, sharp scissors, and patience.
