Going to bath him this evening and need him to stay clean until tomorrow for show.... obviously will wash legs and plait in the morning.

Soooooooooooo what would you do with him overnight?

Bear in mind our fields are quite wet and muddy at the moment and he loves the mud

I want to pick two?

I would say try and get some bedding and leave him in over night if not as long as the arena is secure enough i dont see why he cant stay in there over night with lots to eat.

Good luck at the show

TBH i am leaning towards the arena option....

Its rubber with sand underneath but of course with all the rain the sand has sunk to the bottom again so just looks like rubber.

It has post and rail fencing and a 5 bar gate so secure enough.

Also am not sure what he'll be like if i shut him in overnight as he's been out 24/7 since mar/apr time.

Not really... am having to get to yard for 5.45am as it is!

Has been ok last couple of shows i've done cos i stuck a fly rug with neck on him and then the rainsheet over the top.... only he's now trashed the neck bit (the bit i needed most!) of the fly rug so that plan's not going to work anymore!

I think i am lucky in that he has more brown than white!

Definitely the stable with some bedding, I've spent 9 laborious years prepping a grey for shows (and he's a dirt bag lol) and the only way is the stable, bandages on the legs, tail plaited to end to avoid them pooing on it and a stretchy hoody!...fresh green stable stains are a buggar to get out on mornings before shows, the bain of my life.

but like I said he was a dirt bag, your horse may roll in the arena too and rubber/sand stains are not a good look, having said that neither are stable stains and horse pee. I'd always bed up a rubber floor anyway so it depends on what you do.

Good luck at the show, hope all hard work pays off.

Lol its a nightmare!

If he goes in the arena he will have a rainsheet on too.

He probably would roll in the arena, thats what its between isn't it? Stable and poo stains or rubber and sand?

We have no shavings though! Not sure if the shavings supply is back to normal now but it wasn't last time i checked??

I have turnout boots for his legs and plait his tail up overnight.

Argh if only it was dry weather and no mud, i wouldn't be worrying then and would just chuck him out in the field like i did last weekend!!

I personally would stop in by a saddlery at some point today and get an amigo light with a neck cover. Best £60 you'll ever spend with a grey.

Otherwise, I would stable if you can get bedding, definately not if you can't as you are guaranteed stains.

or I would chuck him in his field and keep your fingers crossed. The rubber in your arena could leave him more marked and harder to clean than a bit of mud.

But.....I would definately squirt him top to toe in conditioner to help your cause in the morning. You will hopefully find that when the mud is dry it should just brush away.

If he is anything like Flash he'll manage to get dirty no matter what you do, so I wouldn't worry too much, just allow yourself time for washing patches of him in the morning. I've totally given up and now bath at silly times in the morning before a show, because i always end up washing most of him again anyway if I do it the day before! Good luck, I'm sure he'll be sparkling when I see you tomorrow!

Lol did you see my other post - am heading to tack shop after work to get some brown make up to cover up those clip marks on his sides! Armed with that and chalk it should all be good!
crazy.gif
I hope

Piaffe's post enlightened me to it, so off to see if tack shop has supreme brown make up hoping that they do and hoping that it will work!

Um.... not sure? I have spray on canter coat conditioner as back up!!!

Oh i don't know!
crazy.gif
5am would be better for OH as he's coming too and not sleeping as he'll get home from work bout 3.30am so not much point, earlier i get to yard would suit him better.

Would i not have trouble plaiting his mane if i do him tomorrow though?
confused.gif

no, don't condition his mane and plait it when it's wet, I found that helped keep things tight and need so much when I do Flash!

See? Am kinda prepared! Just cleaning HIM is seeming to be the hardest thing to figure out how and when to do!!

Luckily horse is happy to put himself on the lorry, even my non-horsey OH can load him as he demonstrated on Sunday!

NEVER condition a mane you plan on plaiting.
