I have 2 labs, and many of you know labs love water and puddles! I am now fed up of them coming home from walks and drenching the utility room! So I was wondering people's thoughts on outside dog kennels with a small enclosed run?
My house backs on to a foot path, and although they would only be in there for a couple of hours each day, I am still worried about people maybe looking for some quick ££ and nicking them!!
Thoughts and advice welcome ?!

Kenneling is fine, make it comfortable and secure.
I have two flatcoated retrievers that regularly go in the sea. Afterwards they wear equafleece pyjamas that don't overheat them but dry them very quickly. They also have vetbed as the top cover in their beds that absorb wet but dry very quickly.
Hope that's helpful.

My neighbour has done this and the dogs have become quite territorial and bark when people pass which is annoying although the are out longer than a couple of hours .I think I would prefer indoor dogs myself. If the are outside wet in their pen how will they get dry to come into the house later.? Probably ok on a warm summer day but not when the weather is bad.

Thanks for your replies!
Looks like I'll have to be purchasing some equaflecces they sound cozy, along with drying them off! Thanks chiffy
Mister Ted, like chiffy suggested they would have coats and a bed with blankets, alongh with a inside kennel compartment with carpet on the floor! I'd try to Make sure they don't bark, wouldn't want them annoying the neighbours!!!!!
I was more worried about he saftey aspect, would you recommend put a lock on the kennel/ pen

We have a few kennels in our enclosed bit of garden, they don't have a huge run. We leave the doors open, the dogs love to go in the boxes and sleep on the straw.

It can make them barky, but I would say for the periods of time you are talking about and for drying off purposes they are great. Always handy to have somewhere secure for them to be put if necessary.

Could you not secure the door in some way?

We kennel the working dogs if they're wet or we are out for extended periods. Security is tough, CCTV is best if possible or a web cam. We use Equafleeces and Tuffies with wicking covers to dry them off.

If somebody is determined to steal your dogs, padlocks, etc., will not stop them. Equafleece and vet beds every time for me and safely indoors.

I kennel my dog during the day in our enclosed garden. I have made the inside of her kennel a doggy paradise, with toys, a lovely bed, blankets and she goes in with a project treat to work on throughout the day. Don't think it's cruel and it certainly does her no harm.
