I have the sweetest TB that I am unsure what to do with.

He is a gentleman in and out of his stable, bombproof in traffic (and we get some very heavy traffic around here) good to clip, shoe, load etc. Is just starting to make a nice shape in the school and is proving obedient and willing.

The only trouble is he has mild arthritis in one knee which makes him only suitable for a light hacking/dressage home and I don't want to sell him for peanuts as I don't want him passed around if that makes sense and I'm unsure about loaning as you hear all those horror stories.....

I don't really have the time for just hacking and he loves having a job to do. What do you think I should do with him for the best??????

Thanks x

For every bad loan story you hear there are two good ones and although the bad ones are scary as a loanee myself I can say that there are loans that work very well.

Spend a bit of time finding him the right loan home and it could all work out!

I think you hear more horror stories about loaning becasue people find out what has happened to their horses... with selling they never know. :-(

As he is that bit more vulnerable to being doped up and sold on and you won't get much for him anyway I agree with Divasmum - sounds like a good idea :-)

Loan. I am doing the same with my similar girl, who has a small lameness problem in certain situations. She is off on the 22nd. May sell her to the loaner later (a year or two) when I know the home is right, but for now it is just loan. Person seems lovely, and I know that she is in the right home, or I take her back.

i'm in a similar situation with my boy, he has copd - he's out on loan to a lovely girl who just wants him to do light hacking. i know where he is and that he's being looked after well. maybe she will buy him one day but only when both of us are satisfied thats where he should be.

Just to be the slight financial voice of caution - just remember that a horse on loan could always come back - its something I always have to consider as my old mare is on loan - and when she cant do any more she will come back...
