To pick your brains (sorry in advance) - cost of everything!

You are probably sick of these sort of things but if you have nothing better to do of a bank holiday evening with work just round the corner I was wondering if you could tell me your horsey outgoings (am making plans and doing sums). How much do you pay for livery, shoes, feed (I know this is very individual), hay, bedding etc etc. Also which area of the country are you in for those prices. Just want to get a general (scary) idea of what I'm aiming to have as "horse money" every month once I've actually saved up for the horse itself!

livery- £140 p/m DIY inc Hay
Shoe-£65 every 5/6 weeks
Feed- £20 p/m (not including random supplements etc)
Bedding- £20 p/m
Insurance- £30p/m
Jabs, worming, diesel, random shopping sprees in tack shops£££££££££!!!!
 
During summer:

£25 a month field rent

£40 a month farrier

£26 a month insurance

£20 a month wormers/teeth/vacs

Total of £111 a month for two horses.

In winter there will be the added cost of feed of £40 a month and hay of £30 - £40 a month, again for the two of them.

Thats pretty much the basics I think, then you can start adding rugs, which you will buy whether you need them or not

I live in east mids and mine are:
Part livery 7 days a week inc all feed, hayledge, bedding (TBH is everything except riding and grooming)- £85 a week works out at £366 a month
Shoes every 6 weeks -£85
Wormer every 3 months -£15
Dentist -£40 every 6 months
Back person- £40 every now and then :S
Extra feed and supps- £35 approx every 6 weeks
Lesson for half a hour every 2 weeks- £10
All tack and rugs bought on ebay or as cheap as poss as a bit of a bargin hunter!

400.00- for all your rugs
40.00- per riding lessons -weekly
 
horses kept at home. hay £3 a bale. feed varies, depending on how much they need, depending on their condition!
worming - about £50 a year per horse.
farrier - trims = £15ish every 6 weeks, or shoes = £60 ish every 6 weeks.
vet - innoculations, other than that, varies hugely depending on accident-prone-ness of horse!
Dentist - £25 twice a year.
Back person - £50 whenever necessary.
Bedding - £5.50 ish a bale, using 2-3 bales a week if stabled at night.
 
Livery - £150/month, includes stable, grazing, straw and hay.

Insurance - £35/month

Feed - depends entirely on your horse's requirements. My last loan horse was a chubby little chap and a VERY good-doer and didnt need any hard feed at all. He got half a scoop of Happy Hoof once a day, to stop him banging when all the other horses got their breakfasts.

Farrier - Taffy was barefoot, so £18 for a trim every 6 weeks. The Moose was shod all round, so £55/ full set every 8 weeks.

Extra bits and bobs (jabs, worming, dentist) - about £250 over the year, i think.

Its not a cheap hobby, we all know that, but it doesnt have to take up every spare penny. There are lots of ways to economise without compromising on your horse's welfare. Not buying 345465 numnahs in every colour available is a good start !!!
 
Thanks guys! I know it's incredibly variable so it's like asking how long a piece of string is. Just started a new job and hoping to move house (out of parents) in July but want to start seeing if I can save a set amount per month (approx horse outgoings) for the next year at least and then start looking at getting one within the next 2 years - so it's a long term plan. At the moment am hoping for a native to show a little bit etc. so hopfully the running costs so to speak may be slightly cheaper - at least for feed (saying that, the welsh D I ride at the mo is one that doesn't live on fresh air!).
