to pull or not to pull!!! hairy question.

Cob has her 2nd inhand show on Sunday, good experience for her :) taking her in the coloured class again and maybe the driving type class. I am aware she is over weight and has lost a bit since these pics :o she hasn't much feather - just a long straggly mane and a fairly thick tail but not a *proper* cob tail :)
I just can't decide whether to pull her mane, take her legs off and trim her face up or leave her hairy?? also if she was pulled and trimmed would she need to be plaited for the coloured class or natural :confused:
Help me decide :o last time i posted a big debate happened and my post got hijacked after someone posted a pic of there horse. :o

Hmmm not sure she could carry off a hog.......yet. She's not really big enough to be a cob, more of a nativy type i think?..........
 
Hairy, cobs look wrong pulled - either natural or hog - no half measures, I prefers the look of a lovely long mane (it might grow into one eventually)
 
If your showing as a traditional coloured then leave au natural! If you want to do cob classes hog the mane pull the tail and take the feathers off or just pull the mane and plait it. Personally I'd leave her hairy and stick to the "traditional cob" look. I know in our area they split coloured classes to traditional and non traditional anyway and I think she would look out of place in a non arena with clipped hair. Hope this makes sense
 
Depends how you like to show her as to how you need her turning out.

But if your not really fussed and want a smart practical look, then off with those feathers and pull the main (thin it, pull it short, lay it) and pull the top of her tail and bang it shorter, you'll have a very smart looking cob...not that she's not already nice but you get what I mean but if your into your showing etc then I wouldn't do any of the above, either leave as it is or hog but i don't think she's the sort to show hogged (as in a maxi type cob).
 
im no expert but i thought you had two options with cob classes

hog, take everything of

or natural and make the hair as big and flashy as possible

the other option is not for cob classes but can be done to a cob and thats trim but then u have to plait up and i dont think its allowed in cob classes but i could be wrong
 
I am going to disagree I dont think she is big boned or hairy enough to show as a "hairy" .Yes she should be hogged,but I think she would look so much better trimmed/pulled with a plaited mane for now ,at local level it should be fine.
You could then use one of your browbands on her:D

Ditto, not enough hair to be a hairy but not heavy enough to be a 'proper' cob, would look smart as a sports cob so pulled mane, pulled tail and no feathers. :)

I dont think her mane looks too bad. Personaly I think she could carry off all three looks trad, pulled or hogged. If you were going to show her in cob classes pulled and plaited isnt correct, but you could still do coloured, RC/PC horse, family equine etc etc.

I agree with this - for now and at local level, as be positive said. Let's hope no one posts a picture of their lovely horse which then gets jumped on by others on this thread ;) It will be interesting to see how she matures, please keep posting pictures

No cob classes yet, just inhand coloured classes and next year some dressage (low level) so pull mane, tail and take off feather and plait for coloured class on Sunday then?! :D
 
No need to hog ,shes still a baby.
Will look super trimmed and plaited.
Dont forget the browband blue and gold would look really smart:D

it gives you pictures of the different types. I think yours would most suit the "native" type. So subtly pull the mane (not so short as plaiting length) and thin out the feathers and tidy the tail slightly.

Don’t hog! As a youngster it will look odd and there isn’t really enough topline there at the moment to carry it off.

Nothing like a good old horse 'spring-clean' :D Mind you, make sure not to get too scissor happy and take too much off in one day...as people always say, you can take more off, but you can't stick it back on! [To which my non horsey sister replied- But cant you just put hair extensions in or something? :rolleyes: then again..I suppose nowadays they have probably invented horsey hair extensions :D ]

Completely agree. I think she'd look lovely with a pulled mane and tail, and trimmed legs. :)

LOL, yes these days you can get false plaits and tail extensions. I kid you not!
