Ok - poo-picking - seen several threads or posts about the dire issues with barrowing in sodden mud somme-like fields.
I find it SO much easier to pull the barrow than push in a field when its wet/deep underfoot.
In the yard I will push the barrow, but pull it in the field & if really wet, will only half fill it so its easier to get about :)

I don't need to poo pick the field, but i have to go across mud for the muck heap and i pull. I pull anyway cause i have cart horse envy

I find that if I try and pull the barrow it just ends up tipping over (not currently poo picking, just taking haylage down) However my mud is rather Un-even and I find it hard to stay up right! So I push.....cos at least that way if I fall over all I'll get is a mouthful of haylage and not mud!

last year I had right battles with mud and barrow and getting my wellies stuck in the mud! I found pushing the barrow and using my knees to push on the barrow to give it some power was the best way! I stacked it when I tried pulling too hard and the barrow didn't come with me!

I got a huge garden trolley thing for Xmas. Has 4 off road type tyres. So much easier! And if it gets really stuck I can pull it along with my 4x4 :) so far so good thou!

I have a history of back problems and asked my physio to show me the best way to push a wheelbarrow as poo picking even in the summer was a nightmare. Answer was don't push it, pull it, we're physically better designed to do that. A normal stable muck out on the yard I will push a wheelbarrow but any other time I pull the wheelbarrow and it has made a huge difference.

My muck heap is up a muddy hill so I push on the flat but as soon as I reach the mud I pull. I also have a little ledge that I have to get the barrow over part of the way up so I spread some straw around it which gives me some grip so I can give it a hard tug :p

This ^

Hence why I pull when full, or ground conditions deteriorate - and currently dont fill so high.
Best to look for barrow with low centre of gravity but not so low handles if really struggling.
