To rug or not to rug

Its not cold 15' but its raining heavily on and off. Armas has plenty of shelter should he choose big tees and he can always come back to the stable.
I tend not to put a rug on him unless its cold as the rugs rubs away his long mane, I have just bought a Bossy Bib ready for winter rugging.

Am I a bad dad ? :confused:
 
No. If a horse is cold = put rug on. If a horse is warm enough = no rug.
I tend to go by how my horse feels, and not by how the temperature is.

Mine have shelter this year so none of them will be rugged and one will have a trace clip, but she lets me know if she is cold ie. she spins in circles so she will get a rug popped on for a night here and there, if she wants it.
 
You are not a Bad Dad, horses have perfectly good fur coats all of their own. If it's chucking it down and he looks miserable, or if he's running about frantically, or if his ears are cold - then he is not a happy bunny and may need a rug/stable/hug (you pick).

He's a horse, 15 degrees is practically bikini weather in Newcastle!

Our cows are calving and no one is rushing out to rug the tiny little things and we had a stiff frost last night. They were bouncing around like they made of rubber this morning.

Of course rub out everything I have said if you have a clipped horse.
