My mare, a very well (fat) sec D X has a lightweight rug on during the day but should she have a rug on at night in the stable? she isnt clipped as she doesnt really do enough work at the moment.
to rug or not to rug!

My girl is a WB and she hasn't yet been rugged, other than a no fill on one very rainy wet windy day (there's no shelter in her field - natural or man made). She has also had a fleece on twice at night in the stable over the past few days incase she sweats with the fireworks.
Other than that, she is a good doer, has been warm every singe day and night when I've checked her. She won't be getting a rug until/if it's -0 and even then it will be minimal this year.

i havent got anything on our welsh section a.
He has a bib clip, wears a turnout rug if its horible and only once so far this winter worna fleece in the stable after he had got drentched one day when he didnt have his rug on.
He is a little podgy so it should help him loose a few pounds!

I wouldnt rug unless they really need it, and if he's fat let him use some of it to keep him warm first
