it always amazes me when someone posts on here that they have been offered XYZ for their horse and ask "Would you sell?"...that the people who answer "no, never" are the one's who generally own what i'd call a "run of the mill, 2 a penny" animal!!!...and would be mad to turn down such an offer, because it's very unlikely it'd be offered again...

so come on...WHAT IS YOUR PRICE???

if somene came and offered me 7.5k for my coloured and 4.5k for my newfie, after checking to see if it was a genuine offer and also checking their eyesight, i'd snatch their hands off..assuming i could get myself off the floor after fainting...

To everyone else they are 'run of the mill, 2 a penny' animals but to the owners they arent..which is why they say they would never sell. It would have to be a substantial offer to part with my mare..although that would never happen

unless they were blind or knew something about her that I didnt!!!

If someone offered me a substantial offer Sol would be sold .
If a decent event rider turned round to me today and offered me 'good' money she would be sold .
Pretty much if I think Sol would do better in prospective (sp) owners home .. she would be sold

Is someone offered me over 5k (and since you say 7.5k for your coloured, I may have to put my price up) for Hattie I would sell her.
Not sure if I would sell Gyp, not because I wouldn't get the money I want but I would be so picky about his home that I doubt I would find one good enough.

Actually hun , you are quite WRONG !!!!
I paid 20 k for the horse I mentioned as a 5 yr old, I find this post very annoying. You don't know owt about me or my horses so SHUT up.

Know what you mean JM07. I would always sell for a good price but it would need to be considerably more than the price I paid, but if someone offered me even twice as much I would think about it, three times I would sell straightaway. I think the world of my horse and have a lot of fun on him but I could buy a lot of horse etc etc with that money. And you never know whats round the corner!

I'm afraid I'm one of those owners who say you can't put a price on my horse.
I paid £3500 for him last year and after 35 years of riding, I have never ridden a nicer horse. I went for a lesson on him tonight and my instructor asked me how much I paid for him and she agreed that he was a real bargain.
I wouldn't sell him at all as he makes me very happy and you can't put a price on that.

J - I wouldn't sell unless it was serious money (and even then I might not), but then he is lame so no-one is going to offer serious money!
V - 4K (he will be for sale and I'd like in that general region)
R - 7K (overpriced at 7K but he'd be difficult to replace for significantly less)

I kind of agree with you, however Bob the Cob (despite many offers) would never be sold, but pretty much all of the others would be available at a price. I cannot conceive of any situation where Bob would change hands.

Porridge could go for £8k (little inflated as I actually don't want her to go yet - she is such an outstanding hunter and hack and her dressage has gotten rather good, she jumps HUGE for fun and you could put a nervous beginner on for a plod about and not have to worry, but she is a good, fun ride for an experienced person).

New one could go for £6k (because that is a chunk more than I paid for her and again I would rather wait and see what she is like before pricing her).

I would never turn a decent offer down on anything these days.

Please don't take this the wrong way, but I doubt this post is about you in particular, as JM07 is not the type to get bothered by any one person.

Hand on heart i would not sell my boy.Money dosen't come into it.To me he isen't worth a penny because he will never be sold.I have been offered good money for him recently by someone that judged us but he is not for sale.

I think some of it comes down to many people believing the only person capacle of looking after their horse is themselves.

Mine are for sale, at the right price, to anyone who'd like to give me the money!!

I also think there's a definite difference between someone saying 'I love your horse, I'd happy give you £X for it' to 'Here's £X, I want your horse'

One of my horses I would NEVER sell.... not for all the money in the world. I have been offered stupid money for him (and as an oldie, it really was stupid money) but even as a younger horse, i'd still say no. My others, i'd sell for the right amount!

EXACTLY Boss.............

Mine aren't for sale for any price but that's lucky as nobody would want them! My pony is now retired but 8yrs ago when she was in her prime pony club days I got offered £4k and turned it down. I only paid £1k for her originally but now I've had her 11yrs and couldn't part with her. She's done her bit for me and will now live out her days in the field eating grass!
As for my TB... well bought to event, with some of the best breeding around, he did a hind suspensory within a year of getting him so that was the end of his eventing. Started dressage, he got quite good, then did a collateral ligament so no more dressage either. Attempting to start hacking soon so wish me luck! But at 9yrs old I wouldn't sell him as someone might try do too much with him. He is sound at the moment but wouldn't stay that way for long, I'd hate to think what would happen to him.

Don't really know what I would consider. Paid 2300 (euros) for my mare but only got that because old owner/breeder was desperate and in an impossible position. Have been offered 9k (euros) for her but in no way considered it.
