That is the question,
Firstly I must appologise for the rant
I have been very upset by a so called friend who I lent some money to as a a bond for her new house she is renting, I am by no means have a lot of money myself what with having 3 horses and a 2 year old son,
I gave her the money on the understanding I would get it back within a week when she had her benifits paid in to he account, This was about six months ago,
I go away on hoildays in 10 days and am absolutely skint, have livery bills to pay and need the money (£270 in all) I have tried asking her for the money (Even £20 quid a month would have helped) but now she is ignoring my phone calls and messages but I see that she is regularly on facebook so obviously avoiding me I have also found out that she is planning a holiday to america with he baby as she has got him a passport (which dont come cheep) and also is booked to have a tatoo next week which is costing he £150.......?????

I am not a nasty person, dont like to upset anyone and will always do whatever I can to help people out

Anyway back to the point, I have an Albion saddle that she lent me to use on one of my horses it (she doesnt have horses anymore but kept it as it was her favourite saddle) so do I sell the saddle to get money back and then have her hating me for it???
Please help as I have nobody else who to speak to that doesnt know her ( they say she will go bonkers)

Oh yeah I would tell her first and see what she says but as she wont answer any of my messages cant tell her

I would send her a message asking for the money she owes you by x date or you will be selling her saddle. That should get her talking to you!!!

I agree with Slinky, tell her what you intend to do then the ball is in her court. She can't prove she didn't give you the saddle so can't accuse you of theft (which would be rather rich anyway!)

I have a so called friend that owes me money too and also avoids any contact now. I hate owing anyone anything so can't understand how people can be so selfsh.

I'm with the others on this one. It's also a lesson learned...get something in writing when lending money to "friends".
We helped some frlends out when they fell on hard times and then were treated badly, they still owe my husband a lot of money and we don't even get a Christmas card anymore. Guess what we have nothing in writing so that is the last we will see of the money I guess.

because she owes you money, you can put what is known as a lien on the saddle....to keep yourself right...speak to your local Citizens Advice Burea....do not forget that she sounds the sort of person who is well up on the rights and wrongs etc etc. good luck.
