am i to big for my 12'2hh pony i'm 7 stone and about 5ft2inches i compete in 2'6 classes and she wins them but am i to big now or do i have a few more months on her ? thanks

I imagine you're beginning to look fairly tall on her but weight wise you will be absolutely fine. If she's doing what you want and you're both enjoying it then keep on doing what you're doing:D

well I am your height but a bit heavier and I used to regualy ride a little 11.2 we used to hack over 5 miles and enjoyed a good balst so no I would not worry. However you may find that your position starts to become comprimised as your balance will be diffrent as you are taller but as you are both fine at the moment I would not worry and at 7st I would think the pony is more that capable of carrying you.

If you don't feel underhorsed and you aren't too heavy for her, which is unlikely at 7 stone :D then carry on! My sister thinks I'm mental as I have a pocket sized 14.2hh on her tippy toes, 75% arab. I'm 5ft5 and considerably more than 7 stone! I adore her, everything is soo easy with her. My sister has a 17hand trak and a 16.2hh clydie cross, i quite like riding them but everything else about them leaves me drained! Just rugging them up is a pain! I'm gutted that my youngster is already 14.2hh at 17 months old, I bought him to make 14.2hh :D Hes going to be way bigger than that!

I love ponies and really wish I was 5ft2 and 7 stone so I could buy myself a little sec A/B to play with!

Hi, I am 5ft and a few stones heavier tham you are and loan a 12.3hh welsh B. She carries me no problem, we have so much fun. I felt odd on her when I tried her as had been riding a mariginaly taller tank like cob. It sounds like the pony is managing fine, if you are managing to jump with no problems like the pony stopping or knocking fences. Weight wise the pony would have to be very fine for you to be too heavy for her.
So many of my friends wish they were small enough to ride ponies again, enjoy them for as long as possible! I am so grateful for my own lack of height when it comes to ponies, I had my last pony 14 years ago a 16!

She's only too small if you think so. Don't let people tell you overwise If your having fun thats the main thing. I had a 12hh pony until I was 15 and even now I should be on horses but I have a pony.

I ride ponies too Ellie. People sometimes worry too much about how long your legs look, it doesn't matter if they dangle down below the pony's belly a bit! It's weight that counts and at 7 st I think you should be fine on your pony. Really, if you start to get a bit heavy she'll tell you, she'll slow down a bit and start to be reluctant to move out of a walk.
Keep on having fun.

I'm 5'4'', considerably more than 7 stone (try +3 stone!) and loan a 14.2hh Sect Dx - we hack, jump, school, blast across fields, show etc etc.
Admittedly she's not very fine (see pics in sig), but when I was learning to ride the smallest I got put on was 16hh! Before the 14.2hh I loaned a 13.2hh and he taught me more than I ever learnt at the RS ;) ponies are ace!
Sounds fine :)

Here here, general opinion in Britian seems to be that ponies are a stepping stone to a 'proper' horse:confused:,I have 3 native ponies12hh,13.2 & 14.2 all low maintenance & turn their hoof to anything great weight carriers & fantastic characters wouldn't swap them for any horse.I find my daughters under alot of 'moving up' pressure too through the pony club, luckily they are quite wee for their age but the problem kicks in when shows arrange groups with age related to size of mount, rarely is consideration taken for older people riding ponies & we are excluded from jumping against our peers due to massive horse sized jumps:(

I'm in my 40s and have a 13.3 and a 14.2 hh. I love ponies :) I did go on to horses as a teenager but I came back to ponies because I just enjoyed them far more than my WBs.
