To the person who stole my Pony's rug off his back.

How awful! Was he in his stable? I really don't understand people doing this. You can buy brand new bargain rugs for next to nothing. How much could you get flogging used dirty rugs? Unless they want the rug for their own horse and cannot afford to buy one? i guess that expensive brands could be resold on ebay.
 
Urrgh, this has happened to me twice, the first time my mare was fully clipped and chucked out on a freezing January night, they'd also fillled her water bucket with muck - her only water supply. :(

I cover my rugs in my postcode with gloss paint now.
 
It comes to something doesn't it when you are almost glad he met a thief rather than a slasher.

It must have been a woman as he wouldn't let a strange man near him. He was in a field with his friends.
 
Its awful isn't it, has happened to me so many times, even when I plastered my postcode over it the scumbags still took them, I had to leave the yard in the end as it was costing too much to replace them.
Like you say at least they didn't hurt him :(
 
Glad to hear he is ok - total bar stewards out there :( Same happeed to my girly a few years back over New Years eve/day - they must have rounded her up and shoed her in to the field shelter, stole her rug (she was fully clipped too) and then proceeded to beat her up. Left with haematomas on her tummy, neck and lumps on her head. All I pray is that they meet a slow, painful death......
 
Glad pony is okay. Where are you?

I have a family member and a friend both had this happen in the last 2 weeks. Both about an hour apart - both South. One lot let the horses out, all okay, other lot at least shut gates behind.

Seems to be happening quite regularly atm :( Used to hear of it once in a blue moon.

Am in Hampshire.
 
My Pony is in Eversley Hampshire, about 3 weeks ago some one took rugs off horse about a mile away from mine, one of the horse was 36 yrs old, he had been ill, had had vet out the day before rugs (2) were taken off him, in the rain, next day pony had a fit, and had to be pts that afternoon.
the thieves struck 2 yards/fields that night about half a mile apart.
Scum!

It was a Blue Mark Todd 5'3" taken from my Sec A pony. I'm not too fussed about getting it back tbh but I hate the thought someone has interfered with pony. He's such a cool dude I don't want him upset although in all fairness they must have used food to get near him so he probably thinks they are bessie mates :rolleyes:
 
Doubt you'll get it back, but if it turns up somewhere it might point to where the scumbag thieves are. Not that I expect anything will happen. :( Also, if you haven't already, report the theft to the Police, it's unlikely they'll do anything except log it, but if there are enough incidents in an area they might increase patrols in that area for a while. Plus it gives them some more statistics to work with.
 
This happened at a yard when my mum was YM got to the point every night without fail rugs were being taken from ponies backs nice ones to. In order to combat it Major a rather Large Shire cross with a hatred for strangers was plopped in the field... low and behold rugs didn't go missing again.

Does make you wonder though doesn’t it what condition their horse may be in if they steal rugs ? hmm
 
Yes the silly thing is if someone who knows me came and said i'm desperate have you got a rug going I'd give them one.
 
I would hate to think its someone decent ( not a serial thief ) who has just hit a patch of desperate hard times and has no choice.

I cannot imagine getting to the stage where I'd have to steal to get food , hay, rugs etc etc for my pony.
 
Argh! Doesn't it make your blood boil to think of thieves handling your horse :mad:

If someone did that to my gelding I honestly think he'd colic as he gets terribly trembly within seconds of having his rug off. The 3 mares are all a fair bit tougher, but I would worry he'd make himself ill :(

Neither can I, I'd have sold/loaned him long before then....

I doubt it's someone doing a one-off, I think it's the "do-as-you-likeys"

That's awful! Did she recover?
 
Sadly they may have been doing it 'for a laugh'.

I had a headcollar, feed scoop and various other small items taken once. Most of which I found scattered in hedges within a 2 mile radius of where they had taken them.
