To trim or not to trim...?

While grooming today i was thinking about horsey's furry bits, by that i mean ears, whiskers, feathers etc. He's a warm blood so doesn't have hugely furry areas but as he doesn't compete i like his hairy ears and whiskery bits.

Anyone else agree or should we really trim? Surely it offers protection especially in the coming winter?

I trim feathers, and sometimes the jawline but thats all, I never touch the whiskers, or ears..

Unless i'm showing all hairy bits get left on, i think they'll need all the extra hair they can get this winter

my horse is having a trim this weekend, but only his feathers

All good to know, he has tiny feathers so easy to keep mud free. His furry ears just make him look 'cute' or should that be handsome, as long as i keep them clean think i'll leave him be.

I trim everything off except eye whiskers. I think im the only person on the yard that does but thats how i like it

If he was going hunting/showing/competing I would go for a full trim. If he is not doing any of those things I wouldn't bother at this time of year.

I leave all those bits my horses furry this time of year, and judging by the weather past couple of days they need all the help they can get!

Ours are left with everything on. I'd most definitely never trim their whiskers off even if I decided to trim anything else off. But I believe they need this extra hair all over for a reason so leave them be.
