Two more questions for you lovely whippet aficionados!
1. Can a single whippet be left alone for 4 hours a day (just two days a week) without any drama? I've read many, many posts of people having trouble with this and never any positive accounts so please share your experience!
2. We will see a whippet pup on Saturday, she is the last in the litter (there is only one breeder in Greece and he won't have more litters in the near future so unless we import this is pretty much it!) ...what should I look for in the puppys behaviour to see that the classic whippet temperament is there under all that distracting cuteness?

The leaving alone bit depends on whether you have to leave her alone for four hours a day from the start (ie you have to work every morning, for example) or whether you just want to be able to leave her alone for up to four hours in the future. All my dogs have been able to be left alone for that amount of time by the time they are adults, however, I don't HAVE to go out so I have been able to work up to longer periods of time gradually. Often it is when you have to leave a young pup on its own for extended periods of time right from the start that leads to separation anxiety. Can't comment specifically on how this relates to whippets as my pure whippet usually has another dog for company when I go out, however, she can happily be left on her own if the older dog has to go to the vets for example. The older dog is a lurcher who is part whippet and used to be an 'only dog' but could be happily left on her own for long periods of time.

Mine are happy left alone for that time. The older one had horrific separation anxiety but we worked through it. The younger is a much more laid back character and would have been fine from with a little bit of preparation.

If theres only one pup then I guess that's what you are getting. I tend to look for the happy, interested puppy. Not the one that is first over and diving all over you, but one that is happy to come and see you and investigate.

Mine are crated and very happy left alone in their crate (I’m a crazy worrier so have videoed them) but do get destructive when left out of their crates but they do the same when I’m in the house given the chance and it’s either throwing toys around or accidental bitey face related damage rather than shredding pillows etc.

By bitey face do you mean the dog bites a person's face or one another's?
