Hope you don't mind a few more photos of this foal - I had only received one photo from the photographers last time I posted and the one in H&H had people crowded round him and I thought maybe you might like to see him standing still and maybe a head-shot and...

...OK, how about I stop all this paranoid rationalizing and just post the damn photos?

Edited to add: this is Poseidon (H Tobago x Sahibaa) - pure-bred colt owned by Al Karif Arabians:

Thanks jaff! I've just edited the post to give a couple more details - he's a pure-bred colt and I should have mentioned his owners, v nice small stud, Al Karif - they bought the mare in foal to Tobago last year, and Poseidon is their very first national champion too, so they are thrilled.

Not sure what height he's expected to make - he's 6 months old in these photos, weaned 2 weeks before the show. He is quite tall by Arab standards!

He is stunning. Doesn't his Dad stamp his babes!
I may have missed this, so sorry for being hignorant, but does Dad actually do anything apart from the obvious? Does he compete at all I mean!!

Thanks everyone!

Dad is only 4, so hasn't done anything yet except prance around show rings and sire beautiful babies. But he will be backed and ridden this autumn (I don't believe in starting too early - autumn of 4yo year seems about right to me?), and will be expected to get out there and prove that he's more than just a pretty face!

Thank you!

I think the photographers do that so that their name doesn't get cropped out when the photos get cropped, if that makes sense?

Lovely, although he looks like a proper horse already and not like baby at all! Maybe its the attitude, whatever it is he's fab.

LOL - some people were saying that 'Poseidon' is an awfully big name for a foalie to live up to, but the owners say he already thinks he's a god, so he should grow into his name pretty quickly!
grin.gif

I know what you mean, though - he is very well-grown and muscled for 6 months old, and people who were at the show say his movement is astonishing for a baby. But he's not being 'hot-housed' or over-fed or over-produced or anything, I promise. He was only weaned 2 weeks before the show, and this was his first show - and indeed his first bath, first time in a lorry, first everything! He loved it all, so I guess he's just precocious?!

Ha ha, I think his name suits him very well indeed!

I didn't mean to imply that he had been rushed or pushed, just that he seems mature beyond his years (or months!), like I said I think its the attitude!

Looking forward to hearing updates on Dad's progress too, seems like its exciting times for you at the moment.

Sorry riviera, didn't mean to sound defensive, just wanted to reassure you in case you were worried that he might have been over-produced!

I think you're right, it's mostly the attitude - he's always been very bold and full of himself; loves attention and loves having an audience. When the huge crowd cheered and whooped at him, he just showed off even more! His handler (who he'd only met the night before) said he was a joy to show - a 'natural show-horse'!

His Daddy is the same - and Poseidon also has Bey Shah on both sides of his pedigree (Bey Shah is renowned for passing on 'show attitude').

Thanks UKW - I love your horses too, as you know!

His owners are certainly hoping he'll turn out like his father, but they are sensible people and will not keep him entire unless he remains equally outstanding as a yearling/2yo/etc.
smile.gif

And he will definitely be expected to perform under saddle as well, of course.

Thanks again everyone!

Oh Gigglepig what a shame you didn't get to go! Hope you get a chance next year. I'm hoping to get a whole herd of Tobagolings together and enter the Sire Produce class - should be a hoot, don't you think?!
