As some of you may know my cob bailey was diagnosed with arthritis last summer and we have had a long old winter trying to keep him comfortable and happy. Since his diagnosis we have done very very little schooling opting to hack instead as its less pressure on his joints.
Today I was having a lesson on another horse and at the end decided to tack bailey up and have my instructor look at how he was moving. SHe promptly kicked me off and got on herself and Bailey did 15 mins of beautiful work in all three gaits. To see him moving so freely and offering a contact and a nice shape was enough to bring a tear to my eye.
To all those with arthritic horses, bailey is proof that with careful management and pain relief they can still live the life they led before their diagnosis. Dont give up hope!! So pleased for my little ginger nut
