Our local vet Alnorthumbria had their opening day for their new equine centre, and Mary King was opening it!
So we arrived almost an hour early
But Mary and Emily and freddie were all their so I got my book signed by Mary and the H&H edition of Mary and Emily signed by both of them. Then we got seats at the front! Then i realised there were photos being take, so i went back again and got a photo
Mary then did a talk about how she had got to where she was and had a DVD playing of her career at different events and she was commentating as it went along which was really good as she explained everything, even my non-horsey mother who i dragged along was interested!
Mary was great at talking and had everyone listening.
Then at the end they said there were a few Mary King signed rosettes left for the kids, but i had to have one so queued again to get one! She was probably sick of me :D

Also they auctioned off her Bejing jacket which was signed and i was so envious of the person who won it (nearly £300!!) which was very good as money went to a charity.

Had a brill time and Mary was very friendly and interesting as was Emily. Freddie looked a bit bored though hehe.
Made my day meeting her! :D:D

I'm another Mary King Fan once (1997?!) I wrote to her telling her I thought she was fabulous and she sent a post card back thanking me! I still treasure it and it's locked away safe and sound!!

She is a truely wonderful person and a fabulous ambassador for the sport! I am so very jealous of you right now!!

I sent a letter too! A few weeks ago and also got a postcard back, i was thrilled!

On the spur of the moment one year, I said to my daughter- hey, Windsor's on and we could be there in twenty minutes so orf we jolly well went. Somehow - I expect it being quite late in the day - we managed to drive into the horsebox park without anyone challenging us and who should we see waving??? Lord knows who she thought I was but received the greeting of a long lost relative - daughter was speechless - which made a change!

ive met her too!! i was quite speechless, got my book signed and a postcard, it was the updated version of her book i had the first one a few yyears back and my mom got it signed for my birthday :D

she is a hero of mine, as she shows you can achieve anything as she never had financial backing and unlike some riders had to do everything herself, so she proves that you dont have to have rich parents and have loads of money to get to the top :)

Mary King (nee Thompson) is a local East Devon girl!!!

Back in the 1970's, she was in the neighbouring Pony Club to ours, and we all had to compete against her!!! (ha ha so that's why none of us got anywhere :) LOL ) - that was/is everyone round here's excuse anyway.

If you know where to ride, you can sometimes bump into her out hacking!

My PC in fact:)
She is a couple of years older than me, went to the same school as well. She was just as lovely then as she is now, same smile.

What PC were you, East Devon?

Where did you live then?

Know that feeling, William Fox Pitt and Pippa Funnel were both in my PC area competitions, unfortunately on other teams! We never won either.

Mary sometimes turns up at local HT's with her baby horses. She is always lovely and friendly, a real ambassador for the sport. I remember seeing Emily when she was was younger and she had a proper pony, which is always nice to see too.
