 today we were scared of...
A fallen tree that had been cut into pieces (but not the one that was still whole)
A grey horse which was being led rather than ridden
A pram / pushchair which was precisely that, one side pram & the other pushchair

:) However we did not mind...
The multiple exceptionally noisy motorbikes
The flapping hazard tape leading up to previously mentioned chopped tree
The electric gate into the park which apparently was deemed safe enough to rest his face on as it slid past

Ah it's nice to be back in the saddle again :D

Horses are mad aren't they! :')

My horse didn't even blink at a forklift truck on the back of a waggon bumping up the road towards him but sheep are the devils work apparently :)

Our old mare will pass anything - except when the waterboard sprayed some drain covers with a blue cross and the man up the road grows the giant sunflowers. Can't stop them looking at her and she is terrified.

Today, my horse was scared of:-
Lupins
Purple flowers
Some big leaves
A humpback bridge
A cow
A cattle grid (I'll let her off that one, it's a healthy respect!)

She turned a blind eye to:-
A bus that didn't slow down, at all
Balloons tied to a gate
A herd of cows
Motorbike
School playground
Flags, everywhere

Strange animals indeed!!

I was pretty pleased with my list considering that it was a new hack for my little arab and she was all on her own!! I did have to get off and lead her over the bridge though as there was a car behind and nowhere to get off the road!!

One of my most exciting rides ever involved a canal bridge, some ice and a swan.

The swan timed it's take off from under the bridge perfectly as we were right on the top when it flew out and up, causing the mare to canter/slide down the icy bridge - it was pretty scary stuff!

We were fine with the cyclists creeping up behind us, the children popping out of walls and absolutely everything else except.............

...... the clump of grass that was taller then the other clumps of grass.

Totally understandable really.

Haha, well, we are going to experience the bridleway bridge over the motorway next week, but it's me who's the coward then and I have to get off, even though the railings are high!!

My boy doesn't bat an eyelid at most things...but there was A PUDDLE where there isn't normally one on a bridleway today - petrified wasn't the word! Lol!

Mine is fine with fighter jets flying low overhead, the army's shooting range that is adjacent to some of our hacking land, dear springing past, any vehicles whatsoever and a whole platoon out on a yomp as we ride along

However, large green leaves that grow next to the road are evil and minature donkeys are officially the spawn of satan:rolleyes:

We passed lots of scary things today absolutely fine but when my ride and DRIVE mount spotted a pony in a cart coming towards her it was all I could do to stop her spinning and running for home. The man driving it stopped to let me walk past him, she was puffing and snorting, jog trotting sideways, when I thanked him as apologised for how long it took me to get her past, he smiled and politely said ohh that's ok and don't worry we get this all the time, but laughed out loud when I told him my mare drives very regularly  strange beings :)

Totally, it probably looked at him funny. :D :p

Your hacking sound suspiciously like where I used to live. You haven't met any steam engines perchance?

Cow parsley was a horse killer today didn't you know??
After spooking hundreds of times on the way out, on the way back it was the water trough and a patch of mud - both of which we passed no problem barely 20 mins before!!!
Traffic cones, road work signs and some sort of tractor sprayer thing = no problem!

Horses eh!?! :eek::cool::D:D

My mare totally refused to go anywhere near the SLOW written on the road - despite having ridden over it, near it, gone past it for many years! She did her snorting, backing, and generally refusing to go forwards (or anywhere else)...for several minutes! Guess what? my friend's daughter was driving past and spent several seconds staring at us in complete disbelief! I was SO embarrassed. We've had similar with gates on driveways that are normally open but are now closed, donkeys, workmen in the distance, a sit-on lawnmower that wasn't normally 'there' and, as others have mentioned, leaves in the verge that are too big. Maybe they get bored??

I'm soo pleased to hear others have this problem, my girl was scared of
a person (random)
a leaf
a small stone
a kid jumping out of a bush
a bird
a guide dog

walking past
- crazy barking dog
a kite
motorbike

I'm finding its so hard to relax with her as I never know what will send her sideways...

I wonder if mares are more likely to be spooky at random things , or maybe it is the breed?
Mines a mare... spookiest horse I know, yet she is as brave as a lion when it counts!!

Totally, it probably looked at him funny. :D :p

Funnily enough, I passed one on the way back from the yard!! They do have the occasional steam rally in the highstreet. South Cotswolds?
