Dear me! Took Rocky today to a local unaffiliated dressage, just to have a bit of a whiz out really. He's been schooling beautifully at home recently so was feeling really positive about it.
Took him to warm up, all was good until 5minutes before his time a rather "lively" horse came in neighing away which was fine, except Rocks decided to pretend he was a stallion - was snorting, neighing and prancing about (most often on 2legs) like an idiot. (nice elevation though!).

So took him into his test (the warm up was directly next to the test arena) and the WHOLE test he was neighing, spinning around to see this horse, squeeling and tried to piss off out of the arena in both canters!! I was highly unimpressed.

Judges comments at the bottom of the sheet (I won't even mention my score!) were:
"well sat" (as he span around mid canter and pissed off in opposite direction)
and "that was clearly a difficult ride, well done for getting through it"....hmm!

Of course as soon as he walked out of the test he calmed down completely and went to sleep - typical male!
I was quite amused by the random judge comments though "inattentive" "lacking control"

And just to add to matters I had decided to take Rocks XC training on thurs instead of Bria as shes done her back in, and its just been cancelled as theres a suspected case of foot and mouth! Great!

Oh dear, naughty Rock...I thought my mare was inattentive at dressage today because she was peeking into the canteen at the people eating their lunch..I should be grateful compared to your chap..always nice when people say "well sat" though...I think it means "I would have been on the floor!"

Haha I "trotted" down the centre line smiling, and gradually throughout the test my smile became more and more forced lol I wanted to just halt him and sort him out but of course you can't do that in a test!

That made me laugh! I can totally sympathise with you, my older horse, who has done loads of dressage tests, does well at novice and works medium at home, is a complete prat if he sees a horse he thinks he recognises or looks like one of his stable mates, neighs constantly and then because he isn't concentrating or listening to me starts to spook at everything-white boards, flowers, judges car! He makes a complete show of me, although if he behaves he usually wins!
I took him to a competition a while ago and he decided to spook at the flowers around the arena, and neigh to the horse in the next arena! Got the remark, 'well handled and ridden on an obviously green horse'! What's even worse is we had an issue with flowers before so I bought lots of fake plastic flowers and stuck them in pots around the arena at home to get him used to them! I was also riding a young horse on the same day who was only doing his second test and he was perfectly well behaved and he got a better mark!
So you have my full sympathy!

Haha I'm glad i'm not alone. Rocks is still only 6yrs old but hes been to plenty of shows so knows how to behave - but i forgive him this one because he hasnt been out to a big show since march as hes been so ill so i forgave him a little for the excitement!
