My 14,yr old spaniel has to have a toe removed on Friday due to having a tumour on her pad. Obviously with her age I'm worried about it being done but it's either that or she permanently has it covered with a sock or boot and it frequently bleeds.
Has anyone had this op on their dog? How did they recover ? Anyone had an older dog operated on? How was it?

My sisters dog had two toes removed and was so much happier for it. She was probably about 9 or 10 when she had it done and I don’t remember it being a hard or long recovery.

One of my greyhounds had a toe removed whilst in training. She went on to win more races afterwards.

It never bothered her in all the years that I had her.

I had an elderly dog have a toe removed, due to a tumour, years ago now, and she was just fine. Also same dog had a GDV (gastric torsion) at 13 years old, which was obviously major surgery on a very sick dog. She came through that as well. I'm sure all will be well and the recovery will be swift.

Thankyou that's reassuring
