But does any one else have toe clipless shoe's??

Also

There both loosing there left fore shoe about a week into shoeing and a week before. Is that the farrier/ The mud or their hooves???

My friends horse had clippless shoes with a rolled toe to move the breakover point back as her pony kept tripping, but there are probably other reasons for fitting too.

If your horses don't normally loose shoes, it is probably the mud. Standing in mud can also soften the horn, which won't help either. Have you tried turning out with overreach boot on?

Patches doesn't have toe clips as she has rolled toes to help with breakover and stop her tripping (it worked)

My impression is that the mud itself doens't pull the shoes off. What happens is the mud holds the horse's foot that little bit longer in the stride which gives the hind foot the chance to come through and step on the back of the front shoe pulling it off.

If you're losing shoes, I'd turn out in over reach boots and the problem should disappear.

Can't answer why yours are pulling off specific shoes.

On the subject of toe clips - my farrier brings ready made shoes with toe clips, but converts them to Natural Balance type shoes at the yard, this involved cutting off the toe clips and squaring the front of the shoe ( over simplification, but you get the idea)

If you have shoes which are squared and slightly set back, then cutting in a toe clip does project a long way back through the hoof, which is why many NB shoes you see will have no clips or 2 clips like hind shoes. There is nothing wrong with this, I suppose there might be slightly more chance of the shoe twisting, but we have never had a problem with it and on balance I prefer the shorter toe/supported heel and no clips option

Over reach boots that a great idea.

Tim always looses shoes because of his cushings and he has brittle hooves as it is.

Spring doesnt but has lost 3 in about 12 weeks!

The farrier is good anything up to 2 weeks after shoeing he will put a new shoe on for free!

The only problem is we can NEVER find the shoe's so always have to pay for a new shoe!

That is my understanding too.

My horse doesn't have toe clips (normal shoes with clip taken off), it allows the farrier to set the shoe back further and better balance the foot of my horse according to his confirmation. He has never lost a shoe.

I would also second the over reach boot suggestion.

Yes Mine has NB shoes and no clips ecause it would "cut into" the toe too much. Pony used to have rolled toes withn no clips either to improve breakover point.

The only thing about them is, my farrier says you shouldn't have stud holes in them as when the studs stick in the ground, there's nothing at the front to stop the hoof shearing off the shoe, if you see what I mean.

My horse was supposed to be shod semi natural balance to avoid putting stress on an old injury, but in summer we had to compromise if I wanted stud holes for jumping on grass.

Our 4 yr old has just had shoes put on for the first time and they don't have toe clips. But they are very light weight and I guess (didn't ask the farrier so don't know) that they don't come with toe clips.

Ive had the odd horse who doesn't have clips on the front. There is a reason... .but Ive always forgotten! I think one horse used to over-reach a lot and had flat feet so this seemed to help him keep his shoes. One of my ponies has these shoes as he has seriously messed up feet due to lami many years ago, so basically his toes never grow right now (therefore a clip wouldn't sit anywhere).

Do your horses have any hoof confirmation problems?

Fabian (who shoes all the horses on the yard bar PF) uses toe-clipless shoes- that's just how they are! Someone today asked me why PF actually HAD toe clips and frankly I was a bit flummoxed
