A few people so far have commented on Booty's 'Flicky toes' when he trots about showing off.
I have always heard that it is a characteristic of a dressage horse and am almost 100% sure I read on the BEF website that eventers must not have flicking toes!...Which is abit worrying as Thats what I plan to do with him

Some others tell me that it is a bad thing and is something to do with tightness in the topline?

Anyone got any ideas or opinions on this?...x

The type of toe flicking that is bad in dressage is like this

Where the hoof is actually being flicked at the fetlock, which you don't often see except at very high levels.

Alot of horses 'toe flick' including our section B's, where they flick their whole front limb out, before bringing it back in a little to place it- As far as I can see as this is their natural movement it is not bad for dressage, but certainly to do well they have to learn to be more supple, and place their foot down at the furthest extension, so longer stride, and to do that they will have to be more relaxed through the topline.

Does that make any sense?
