Told off for Laughing

Get this. A friend and I went to a VERY WELL KNOWN EQUESTRIAN CENTRE (BHS Approved) to have a coffee after her lesson. We weren't the only ones in the cafe. After about 10 mins (and we were sitting quietly - honest) we were approached by the chef who told us that we were making too much noise laughing (we weren't). He wan't being amusing either.

Were you maybe sat where someone having a lesson might have mistakenly thought you were laughing at them? Not saying you were, but easy mistake if your next to the arena.

If the cafe was close to the school and I was having a lesson and heard someone laughing, even if it wasn't at me, I would feel really uncomfortable and would want them to stop...

I can understand why he might have asked you to be quite, not his tone however. Laughing while someone is having a lesson can be very intimidating, even if your not laughing at them.

When my young sister was learning to ride in a RS the pony she was riding threw a buck and she fell off and the parents of the other children in the lesson laughed, she was mortified and embarrassed, as she was only a young girl and she's never ridden since.

No-one was having a lesson and the school is enclosed with glass so if there had been anyone in the school at the time (i don't think there was we weren't even sitting by the window) they couldn't have heard us. He is just such a miserable bloke! Then they moan that they don't get any customers!

Either I have a feeling I know where it is, or there are lots of grumpy cafe workers in the countryside!

But why??? We want to support local businesses, keep the comp. centres going etc etc the teaching staff are all really nice, then something like that spoils it!

This! If it helps at all, once when I was in a cafe in Wales I laughed so hard I threw up. Into my friend's coffee cup even.

maybe he was trying to avoid laughter related vomiting syndrome? Not fatal but a bit messy

Did you pay for the coffees? If so, and you were nowhere near nervous horses or riders, I would say you could sit there playing the trumpet in your bikini and welly boots if you so wished! (Maybe there was a sign up that you didn't notice: 'Customers are politely requested not to enjoy themselves'!!)

Well, just don't give them your money again!

I go for a coffee to chat with friends, even quiet conversation could be a distraction so why site a cafe beside an arena, even glassed off, a sudden movement could spook a pony/horse
