What are your thoughts of this bit please?

Max has a tendancy to lean on the bit in canter and we can have stopping problems!!

Everyone at the yard raves on about the Tom Tumb bit, but I wonderd what you all thought.

I use one on both my mares who lean on the bit and ive found they hardly lean at all with the tom thumb, they both feel quite light in my hands now

Do you mean a Hanging cheek snaffle? I really like them because it give you that tiny little edge (especially with something that has a large neck but adiquate breaks) and takes somthing off the mouth. If you look at alot of these "modern" snaffles they all seem to have "top slots" now! At a stable where i have lessons they seem to be standard issue with 80% of her horses, with a variety of moutpieces tho

I rode a very strong, feisty little horse in one for XC who had failed to have breaks up until using the tom thumb. It really kept him 'up' and meant not having to be constantly fighting him, just checking him worked to bring him back to me and he seemed happy with it in his mouth. Saying that i wouldn't want to use it for anything other than XC or hunting.
I'd also think some horses would hate it, but worth a try - maybe hire one from a bit bank?
