Tongue over bit.

Went out for a drive yesterday, and when I looked, don had put his tongue over his bit.. it is a new bit, and I guess I had got it too low in his mouth. Luckily he managed to put it back under, but if he hadnt, is there a way of doing it without taking bridle off, as that wouldnt be easy halfway through a drive!!!
