I know we have a long way to go and have serious roundness issues, but at least she was obedient and listened! She is going better at home, not in a consistant outline, but getting there, although that went out of the window tonight.

Oh well, lots to work on!

Did P14 first, then N30 - and if you had seen how May can go, that was real improvement! she was coming quite round in the warmup, but all went out of the window when we went in! Never mind!

Still have'nt had any takers on the 'free to good home'!! Oh, I wonder why!!
Was also considering putting her on the Project Horses Website too!!!
 
Well done Lisa. I admire your commitment - especially as it was soooo cold last night. At least Madam didnt do anything naughty for a change!

My instructor pointed out the other day, you will always be a few months behind your work at home when you go to a show so you'll get there. Well done for giving it a bash and for her listening that is certainly a good start!

I watched your video, I think you are going along the right lines and one of the reasons I think this is because you are persevering, you are not yanking her- you are riding her correctly forward, if anything she is just looking at her surroundings! Bless!

I think when you get her working in a more consistent outline you will see a huge difference in her... You have a lovely seat and have really done well with her. It is all there, she just now needs to work more from behind and carry herself a bit more, the roundness will come when she begins to work over her back. I always think the 'on the bit thing' should not be too much of an issue, as it tends to come naturally as they progress.

A few tips I have picked up over the years to get a horse using its back end more and learning to sit down a bit is to do lots and lots of transitions. I mean 60 in a session (that is what I have to do with Grace). We do lots of walk to trot, trot to walk, with only a few strides in between of each, and then trot to canter and canter to trot. It is working really well for her, not only getting her to sit on her hocks more, but also getting her in front of the leg. Another tip is to work them a bit deeper and lower throughout the session. With Grace, once I have warmed up I then get her working lower for a few circles, pick her up and collect her for a few circles and keep repeating this until she is soft in the hand and 'spongy' in her topline.

Where was the competition by the way? I have one at Church Farm on Saturday and am scared to death as it is Grace's first ever competition.
