Hello.. having spent since last Sept gently getting our old mare fit again we need advise on the 'belly'..
She is a 20 yr old ex international showjumper who retired to stud in 2007, bred 2 foals and lost her last.. she came to us in Sept to be retired beside the sea, and we thought it would be lovely to try n do some of the Veteran Horse Society classes with her, she won at HOYS n Olympia in her jumping days and to qualify her as an old lady would be great..
When we got her she was FAT.. no other word for it.. We call her Fatty.. and with careful work she is fit now, has been to several show including Royal Windsor, looks fantastic and does very well BUT we can not shift or tone the tummy.. any ideas pls.. We were advised to wrap her in clingfilm but i fear this would cause muscular probs and i won't risk her.. just wondered whether anyone has any fab ideas.. thanks x

My physio showed me some excercises to do with mine. It was a long time ago though so I suggest you speak to your physio for advice. I vaguely remember that one involved running fingers along stomach and getting them to 'tuck up' tummy (similiar to tickling someones stomach so they tense) -hope this makes a bit of sense! :o

The tummy lift is useful, also work her long and low aiming to get her lifting her back up as well as her tummy and breathing deeply so you can see a line as she breathes and lifts correctly.
Work over poles can help, raise them to make it more effective.
