I've spotted this ad on Horsemart and in light of recent scams I just thought the price looked a bit too good! I've never seen one for less than £4k before. Anybody else agree with me?

Also there's no phone number, just an e-mail address which immediately rings alarm bells with me. I googled the wording and it doesn't come up anywhere else, but I've reported it to horsemart to be on the safe side. Thought it best to warn people. Buyer beware and all that. I'm just browsing so I haven't asked any questions, so of course it could be genuine and they might just want rid of it quickly!

probably being dumb here but how do you know it's too good to be true. In what way is it a scam?

Is it the same trailer/owner in both adverts? one in lanarkshire, one in berkshire.

How does the scam work?

They copy a genuine advert and advertise the same item at a much lower price (2k lower in this case). Unsuspecting people contact them and are talked into paying a deposit to secure the item before anybody else snaps it up (as they surely will with it being so cheap). They pay the deposit (or even the full amount sometimes) and then never hear from the seller again.

it may actually be placed there by horsemart them selves!!

2 friends, and ourselves were selling lorries through the nfed, horsedeals and horsequest, when over a matter of days all 3 lorries appeared on horsemart. none of us placed an ad with them, or paid them any money

but it wasnt just our lorries, we came across many many other lorries that had just been placed on there. normally details were slightly changed e.g. age, size, price, where it is...... you could find the original advert somewhere else.
although they did say ours was blue when quite clearly in the photo they stole of it it was silver. and still is so!

my mum gave horsemart a call and they were VERY cagy/difficult about taking the advert down, but did say it wouldnt happen again. they also gave us some vounchers so we could relist our box for free, but with correct details. we didnt....

I sent a message to the seller on gumtree, if it is them posting twice trying to scam then they have been caught. Otherwise they will be aware someone is using their ad and they can contact horsemart I guess.
