Right, I have a mare for sale, don't shoot me nobody who reads this can have her!

Is this too honest- I have put

"She is caught with feed and wears a headcollar in the field, it doesn't take long to catch her once she trusts you but she will never walk straight up to you.

The price is negotiable to the right home where someone will take their time and have plenty of patience."

The mare is lovely but not suitable for what I want and (although I kinda knew that when I bought her) I felt sorry for her as she was so thin and scared. She is now not, I have re-started her and she is lovely BUT not for everyone and I am fussy who has her so I don't want numptys coming along.

Should I be less honest and more "floral" or will this weed out the dross enough?

No, I think you're right to do this, then prospective buyers will most probably only be people who are prepared to put the work in and gain her trust so you will also be happier to let her go :) I would be a bit peeved to be honest if I bought a horse who I possibly couldn't catch and the owner knew it had issues and didn't tell me, good on you for being so honest, I wish all sellers were the same as you, good luck ;)

Do you have to put it in the advert ? Can you not tell people when they ring?

I would weed people out on the phone, rather than put possibly suitable people off ringing in the first place.

You see this is what I was wondering, would it be best to weed em out when I've hooked them (so to speak) with her lovely manners and pics or before they even call?

I feel like I may be wasting people's time if they ring and I tell them. Alternatively, I can't imagine how many horses are not as described in their fabulous adverts and then the purchasers turn up to find they're awful to catch etc....

This is what came to mind for me. My first pony was a nightmare. I remember very clearly being about 13 and sitting in his field crying my eyes out having spent 2 hours in the pouring rain trying every trick in the book to no avail.

Despite this, it wasn't that bad all the time and once he was in, he was a dream in every way.

However, if I were to be horse shopping, reading this in the ad might slightly put me off. I agree that you'd be better off to mention it to prospectives over the phone :)

The add to me just sounds very negative. I think you can be that honest but you can emphasise her good points abit more and make it sound more positive. If you get what i mean. :)

What does the rest of the ad say? As long as you've given a balanced picture of her I'd say you'll be fine. If that was all the ad said then I probably wouldn't ring up unless she was very cheap.

Bahahahaaa- that would be the world's worst advert! No, the rest of the ad says

"Gorgeous young mare, 16 hands approximately. She is a lovely mover and very quiet to ride, she hacks out and is excellent in traffic, not spooky and canters in an open field without getting strong. She will pop a small course of jumps. Madison has never raced but is green, she had a foal before I got her and so has been broken in for around 8 months.

She is a very nice horse to ride, works in an outline and has been ridden by teenagers. This mare is very mannerly on the ground but can be nervous and so needs to be handled calmly and confidently. She thrives on routine and will settle down if handled regularly.

She currently lives out with mares and geldings and is trimmed by the farrier regularly. She is caught with feed and wears a headcollar in the field, it doesn't take long to catch her once she trusts you but she will never walk straight up to you.

The price is negotiable to the right home where someone will take their time and have plenty of patience. Madison is a sweet mare but it takes a while to gain her trust, once you have it she will be an awesome RC type or maybe even progress in dressage. She is not for loan and any trial must be at her current location."

However, I'd like to reiterate that nobody here can buy the horse and I am happy to take this bit out of the post if anyone is upset that this may be advertising.

That sounds better. How much do you want for her I'll have her ;) :p :D :D

LOL She's bigger than 14hh no good to me. :D :D

Thats absolutely fine. Its a nice balanced advert that would say to me that you care about your horse and want it to go to a nice home. I'm always a bit sceptical of the ads that are too perfect, all horses have their flaws.

I don't see how you posting this because I asked you to is advertising so I wouldn't worry too much, I certainly don't want another horse, one fiesty mare is enough for me.
