Too many supplements? Also, results with Cushinaze

Hi all

I started feeding Cushinaze a couple of months ago to my 17 year old (who is also on one prascend a day) and have noticed what I think are positive results. His thirst has improved as he's not drinking nearly as much, and just seems in good spirits generally.

He is a good doer so just has happy hoof with Bailey's lo-cal balancer and soaked/ rinsed hay.

I'm just wondering if now I'm feeding the Cushinaze I need to continue with some of his other supplements. He has pink powder for his gut, but as the Cushinaze contains Brewer's Yeast I'm not sure he needs this as well? He's also on flexi joint but, likewise, the Cushinaze contains turmeric and rosehips, although not the glucosamine.

I'm wondering whether to cut down to just the Cushinaze. Has anyone else noticed that this fed alone helps with gut health and flexibility?

Thanks!

There is a very useful Facebook group called EMS PPID (Cushing's) and Laminitis UK.
the ladies that run it are very knowledgeable and will give you some excellent advice.

Did you start the Cushinaze at the same time as the prscend? I would Gone that it's the medication that is helping rather than the supplement. Do be careful using medication with supplements....it has been found that small amounts of Agnus Castus can help with some clinical signs but not reduce ATCH

'A low dose may not be effective, and may in fact inhibit dopamine, which is the opposite of the effect wanted for horses with PPID.'

Thanks for your reply. No, he's been on prascend for 3 years. I have noticed an improvement since starting the supplement recently.

Also, my vet is aware of me feeding the Cushinaze as I mentioned it on the last check-up and they didn't advise against it. As I said, he seems much improved on it in terms of his anxiety levels and general contentedness.

Do you need to feed the prascend as well as the cushineaze? Geniune question. If your horse has stabilised, then could it be worth talking to your vet to see if you can just have him on the cushineaze. I ask as when my mare came back after loan, I was told she had cushings and was on a hefty dose of Prascend. My vet was sceptical and on doing the bloods, turned out my mare didn't have cushings, and she had not been tested previously. He suggested we could look at alternatives if she was positive, hence posing the question.
