Too messy for megazorb?

I've been trying to bed my very messy mare on megazorb for about six weeks now and I really can't seem get the hang of it.

If I try not to disturb the bed too much, there are always loads of little bits of poo left in the bed and it ends up very brown and grubby looking.

If I do move it around more I end up having to take out loads of wet bedding, every single day. The front half of the bed is always sodden and full of mushed up poo every morning and it takes me ages to muck out.

I'm using about two bags a week at the moment and could easily end up using more. What am I doing wrong and can anyone suggest an easier way or type of bedding? Straws out as it makes her cough and she won't lie down without a proper bed so reducing to a sprinkling of bedding isn't an option either.

Please help!!

I have a really thick bed with 3 walls and only use one bale a week using semi-deep littering ( poos out in the week, all wet out on the weekend )

I only use one bag a week on megazorb and my boy is messy.
ziggy is your bed compacted down, when my chap was on box rest to start with I had the same problem he hated box rest and box walked and before it was compacted mixed it all up, however the bed compacted then I scraped of the wet top leaving dry underneath and put down some fresh and that has done the trick.

He is now only in at night and it now stays lovely and clean, I have to hand pick the bits of droppings missed by the fork, however takes me minutes to muck out. When I dig out the wet patch I replace with totally clean. And also spread clean over the compacted base once a week.

I had 3 horses on similar bedding (can't remember the name of it) and 2 were fab and one was as you described. I tried leaving the base to compact for weeks and kept adding new bedding and nothing worked for him. I put him on semi deep littered shavings which was much better and worked out cheaper because I used so much less per week. I only had to muck out fully twice a week and just took droppings out the rest of the time.
