I have 8 horses on 7 acres at the moment and i still have too much grass!!

3 horses are going back to their owners tomorrow, so have asked the farmer to come and scalp the fields!

last year i only had 5 horses on, and i didn't have enough really, not done anything to the fields to cause it!
Don't know whats going on this year, bloody stuff is sprouting up everywhere!!

I can get some, but i need to sheep proof it all first.
Have done about a third of it, just need to battle on and get the rest done.

Same problem here!!!! 16 acres, five horses now!

Same here, I'm still bringing in at night to keep the weight down. It's much better than last summer, but as you say, too much!

I have the opposite problem not enough grass as it hasnt rained enough and our grazing has fab drainage whch is great in the winter when its wet and nasty but come summer if it doesnt rain much it soons dries out... I have some grass left but wont last that long so I think I will be haying the field in a month or so if this weather continues with no rain. Its like a desert

But mine are all fat being natives so shouldnt be so bad.

Yes - totally with you on this one! We've got two and about 8 acres - 5 acres are fenced off for hay making and the other land is just as wild with grass! My two have to wear muzzles (one colics and the other is a prospective lami!) they go out at about 11am and come in at 4pm and to be honest it's like Brewster's Millions - as soon as we try to get rid of some more appears!!!

At least there'll be grass in winter too!

Normally we have far too much grass, but this year we just don't have enough, probably due to the lack of rain.

Three cuts of hay and smaller paddocks?

I can't put my horses out on my fields at all, they'd founder within hours, so they live in bare paddocks on hay.

Well i phoned the local farmer with an SOS and bless him, he came tonight and scalped them for me.

He's just finished now, and is off to cut his hay at this time of night!

I'm so lucky to have good neighbours, all cow farmers who dislike horses ( waste of a good field lol) but come out at the drop of a hat for a damsel in distress lol
