I'm not sure what to do about my dog. I work 4 days a week 25 miles from home so no chance of getting home in the lunch time. Dog currently goes to my parents two days a week and the other two days to a friend. This has worked for the past 14 years - with my previous dog and now with this one. I'm about to lose my friend as a dog sitter due to long term hospitalisation. No dog walkers cover my area as I am too far outside the city in a rural area. Dog cant go to my parents 4 days a week. No close neighbours/friends to pop in. No possible chance of taking the dog to work and I park in a large public carpark where you wouldnt dare leave anything of value in the car!!
Is two days a week too much to leave her home alone? she would get a walk before I leave at 8.15am and another walk when i get home at 5.15. She has access to the garden (fully enclosed and gate padlocked) via a dog flap. Dog is a small terrier aged about 2 years and doesnt stress when left alone.
Is this too much to ask of her? Would it be better to get her a friend?

You circumstance has changed and you have said she is not a stresser and she has access to the toilet and is of an age where she will be ok alone with acess outdoors, I think if you have room for another and she will accept it ok then why not? aslong as that one has no issues:p I would maybe see how she goes in the new routine and then decide.

I understand that the Dogs Trust run a national system of volunteers to help with this kind of thing. I believe it is free. You could give them a ring and see if they could help you.
